Carbonite, an online backup tool for both Windows and Mac OS X that has been around for a while now, in fact, we reviewed Carbonite on Zath this time last year, however, it’s recently gotten a major version update to 4.0, with new features for you to sink your teeth in to!

So what’s been added since the last time we saw Carbonite? There are three main features which have been added to version 4.0: the restore manager; a new custom setup option and a redesigned info centre too.

If there is one part of the software development industry that never fails to frustrate me with its lack of innovation, it is speech recognition and sufficient artificial intelligence to truly understand what I’m saying. I remember being really excited at the speech recognition system in Windows Vista, only to be disappointed by a lack of true functionality. My attention, therefore, naturally turns to third parties.

One application that promises to bring speech recognition to your computer is Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11, which promises to “turn your voice into text three times faster than typing with up to 99% accuracy”. Considering how dubious I often find myself at these applications, I was surprised to be somewhat excited when this particular box arrived at my door. Can it truly be good on its promise though? Flipboard is a recent application for the iPad that has been discussed in magazines, blogs, and across the web. With magazines and comics proving to be somewhat popular on the iPad, it was only a matter of time until someone created an application such as Flipboard.

So what exactly does it do? Well, Flipboard serves as your own, free tailored magazine on the Apple iPad by taking content from your Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as a selection of other blogs and online magazines from around the internet and organising them so that they are easy to read and digest.

Are you fed up of logging in to all of the different services you’re on, such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Google Reader and Digg? Yeah, me too, so I decided to try out Socialite for Mac OS X, an application which allows you to keep track of every single one of those feeds I just mentioned, as well as any other RSS feeds you want to add, in one window.

Installation and Setup

Once you’ve downloaded the DMG file from the Real Mac Software website, installation is a simple case of drag and drop in to your applications folder. After you’ve installed it, you’ll have to set up all of your feeds within the application, so you can access everything in one window without having a million tabs open to access all of the content in your browser.

I’m becoming quite the TechSmith fan lately. After reviewing Camtasia for Windows, and Snagit for both Windows and Mac OS X, I was left with a very favorable opinion.

I was, therefore, expecting great things from Camtasia for Mac. I predominantly use Macs for most things that I do, including any screencasting. I’ve used products such as ScreenFlow in the past to record desktop clips, so I was interested to see how Camtasia would hold up against the competition.
