Free Virgin SIM Card

virgin-media-logoWhen I saw that you could get a free Virgin SIM card for your existing mobile phone, I thought I’d may as well get one and see what Virgin Mobile is like as a ‘Pay As You Go’ (PAYG) mobile phone network, especially since my current Orange contract expires this week!

When you receive your free Virgin SIM card (with monthly payments starting at £15, but no long contracts) you will then be able to take advantage of the following PAYG tariff:

  • Pick up more minutes and texts than you would with a contract
  • Keep your phone and number
  • No long-term contract – you aren’t tied-in to a lengthy contract
  • Plus some neat extras like free voicemail in the UK and free itemised online statements

I believe that the Virgin Mobile network uses the actual T-Mobile network infrastructure for its service, so you will probably need to bear that in mind when you decide whether you will be using your free Virgin SIM card long-term. Therefore if your T-Mobile signal coverage isn’t very good in your area, then it may not be the best option for you, but you can always get one of these free Virgin SIM cards to test it out.

Alternatively, you could actually get a free PAYG SIM card from each of the networks to test out which network has the best coverage and tariff for you, just take a look at my previous posts about other free SIM card offers.

I really miss the days of being in good old England having mobile phone companies begging you to use them and throwing all sorts of exotic offers your way!

I once got a Samsung 17inch flatscreen moniter / tv for FREE when I saigned up to a 12 month contract with Vodaphone.

Here in Canada it’s a different story. Calls are expensive. Phone technology seems to be lagging behind for the cheaper end of the market.

I paid $180 for a Samsung PAYG on Virgin Mobile! Oh and the other thing, the bloddy sim card is built in so you can’t use the phone for anything else but a Canadian Virgin Mobile PAYG!

Canada is fantastic but mobiles in Canada suck big old balls (sorry for the profanity, you can see this subject annoys me :) )

Anyway Zath, hope things are all good over here. I’m working on a new blog (nearly ready to launch properly) and think I am going to be diverting quite a lot of my time there so if you are interested come along and sign up. http://www.blogaboutanimals.com.

Most days will probably be silly animal videos and pictures, with weird animal profiles, news and the odd product review. I’m also looking for feedback on the design as this is kind of the first draft.

I’m still shocked about your experiences with mobiles over in Canada – I’m used to this place being rip-off Britain and getting short-changed – I really can’t believe you can’t do simple things like swap sim cards in your mobiles to re-use them.

North America always seems to be trend-setting, especially in consumer electronics – it really does astonish me to read they lag behind in mobile technology.
