Discount Shopping Online?

discount-shopping-onlineI find one of the greatest things about using the Internet is the ability to do some discount shopping online to find yourself a well-researched cheap bargain!

I really embraced online shopping to such as degree that when I do go out into the high street, I find that I no longer make want to make any impulse buys that I would then often regret making afterwards. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or that I get much more satisfaction from actually researching which actual products are best in a given category and finding that product at the cheapest possible price on the Internet.

I think it’s most likely the more patient, frugal-side of me winning out over the side of me that wants immediate shopping gratification! I sometimes wonder how many other people feel the same way as myself about discount shopping online these days, if it’s an increasing number then surely the physical high street stores will have to develop accordingly where they offer no real benefits over that of a website.

I think quite a lot of people are now starting to use high street shops merely for research purposes to see in person what they’re interested in buying, if they like what they see, they then find the cheapest bargain price on the Internet and then buy it online – now that you can access the Internet on many mobile phones, you can often do an online price comparison whilst in the store to put your buying decision beyond doubt – I’ve done that a few times!

Also, as somebody who lives around 25 miles from my nearest city (York), I also find the fact that your items are delivered to you (usually within just a few days) means that what with the rising costs of fuel for your car, you’ll probably be saving more money by having the item brought to you than if you have to travel somewhere to pick one up yourself from a shop somewhere.

The only items that I find I still go out to buy from a physical store is things like clothing and shoes where I’d rather know that they actually fit correctly, other than that there isn’t a great deal else I buy from the high street that I could actually buy online, is this the same for you?

Overall, for me at least, the Internet and really changed the way that I buy things and means that I’ve saved a lot of money in the course of doing some discount shopping online, what do you think to buying things online? Are there any issues which concern you? Do you like to pick up a cheap bargain while you’re browsing the Internet?

I agree. But there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the right online store. First, check their security. Do they have a certificate (https) or hacker proof? Then, read their policies…don’t just click “agree”. Some policies are not clear and very misleading. Then, look for a purpose! I found that many sites give you ways to shop that are very rewarding. Take a look at http://www.goodwillmall.com, you can shop while giving to charities (up to five). plus you get great rebates, access to brand name stores such as Land’s End, Office depot, etc… and you also accumulate points (for other purchases or donations). This is online shopping at its best!!!

Shopping online is all that I do — except for the “must-have-it-right-now” item. Usually, I enter traditional stores to get a feel for what’s hot on the market right now, and I write down prices. I then zip online to see if I can find the item cheaper.

Nice implementation of the Revolution Theme.

It’s good to know that I’m not the only one thinking like this these days, it must be rather concerning for these physical stores…well except for those selling clothes and shoes!

@Tony – Thanks very much, I do like this Revolution theme for being rather clean and well designed, I’ve tried to customise it in a similar way without making it “too busy”.
