Cheap Nintendo Wii?

cheap-nintendo-wiiA cheap Nintendo Wii bargain console is something that is now starting to interest many people what with the soaring popularity of the Nintendo Wii’s unique controls, even with people who don’t fit the traditional gamer stereotype.

A few months ago, around Christmas time I was seriously considering getting a cheap Nintendo Wii bundle (assuming I could find one) after having the chance to attend Sega’s Mario and Sonic Olympic Games preview event. I managed to find a Wii console bundle one day in December at a local HMV store, but eventually decided against getting one at the time as cash was short given it was Christmas and I also had lots of stuff to play and do over the festive period.

I’ve now decided that is time to get the cheapest Nintendo Wii bargain (well after I’ve had chance to play Grand Theft Auto 4) that I can find, what with some of the recent Wii game releases such as Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and some of the highly anticipated ones such as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – who hasn’t wanted to wield a lightsaber?

I’ve been looking around for the best cheap Nintendo Wii console bundle for myself and some of my friends who also want to get one. The thing about this console is that because Nintendo have such a hot product on their hands, there will unlikely to be any price cuts soon, since they don’t need to make price the Nintendo Wii as the cheapest console (cheapest is Xbox 360). In fact Nintendo have actually said there will be no price cuts in 2008!

With that in mind, the best cheap Nintendo Wii bargain that I’ve found can be found below! Have you already got a Nintendo Wii? What do you think to it? Does the novelty wear off or is it a truly great innovation in gaming?

I just have to say, if you’re fond of hardcore games, the Wii will only disappoint. Sure, the controller is unconventional, but there are too many games where it is barely functional. The “new” titles like MarioKart for the Wii is a warmed-over rehashing of other Kart titles, and the “innovative” control with the steering wheel is sluggish, so that you may end up running back to using an analog stick. GTAIV will never make the jump down to the Wii because a) the hardware is dated already and can’t handle it either volumewise or graphicswise and b) most of the bosses of Nintendo think only 8-year-olds play the Wii, explaining the handful of “M” rated titles out there. Do you really want to play as niko, brandishing his squirt-gun? I didn’t think so.

If you’re getting jazzed up about The Force Unleashed, I hate to disappoint you there as well, but so far the Wii has done terribly port-wise. I very much doubt that the gameplay will leave you feeling like you’re really wielding a lightsaber. This is just speculation, but essentially the designers would have to rewrite the whole game and slow it down to enable you to actually play it; the crazy speeds the game will be set to for the PS3 and XBox 360 will be unable to completely analog with true motion controls. If Nintendo makes their own lightsaber-fighting game for the Wii, then there may be a chance the game you’re imagining may come out. Im not sure how much fun it’d be without force-feedback to let you know you’ve hit something/someone, but we can all imagine, right?

The Wii will keep going with their appeal as a non-traditional game platform, but it’s pretty clear that their course is to bow out of the race and try to start their own genre/niche. Most people I know, as well, who have a Wii played it a while then forgot about it. Save the money and get some of the hottest games coming out this fall, you’ll have more fun in the long run.

GTA 4 Wallpapers – I doubt that you’ll be seeing GTA 4 on a Wii, I don’t think that that console has the power to run the game engine, otherwise we’d have seen it released at the same time as the Xbox 360 and PS3. Perhaps they’ll release some form of Wii-based game like they have for the PSP etc?

Shigeru – thanks for your comments, it’s always good to hear other people’s views – the Wii is definitely a niche product, more a social/party gaming experience, a lot of my friends tend to gather for Wii-nights – but I doubt that many of them play while alone.

In terms of a business, in the Wii, I think Nintendo have admitted defeat in keeping up with the powerhouses of Sony and Microsoft and gone off in a tangent in their direction and found a new market – it’s clearly working for them.

I used to consider myself a hard-core gamer, but over the last 10 years or so I seem to be playing less for as long as I used to, perhaps just part of being busy with lots of other things in life – in this regard I think more casual gaming will start to be more attractive to certain people, the Wii, the PSP, the DS all help to fulfill this growing niche market.

i personally think wii has revelotionised
game play, away from hard core game players.
to the vast majority of the public.
Especially wii mario kart is extremely
    quirky and engaging.
price is always a moot point-
you can get some good deals at ebay or
    laplandtoys.co.uk
have gone under the 180 mark.
all leaves us for some entertaining fun!

    Hey Zath,

That is a very reasonably priced Wii. I have been wanting one too but the prices haven’t been too friendly to me yet. :-) Maybe this will change my mind. Stumbled!
