One of the problems that has been facing serious gamers over the last few years has been the introduction of LCD monitors which despite the fact that they are significantly smaller and more visually appealing could not live up to the performance of the old CRTs, and as the latter is slowly being phased out by manufacturers there is a definite gap in the market for top quality gaming monitors.
Or at least that is what the manufacturer BenQ believe as they have set out to develop a LCD monitor that allows the gamer to focus as much on the game as possible by providing maximum performance, and in order to do this they have enlisted the help of ZOWIE GEAR to help them.
Here on Zath we have seen quite a bit of ZOWIE in the past (with their Hammer Headset, Mousemat and Swift Gaming Surface) and the quality that we have seen along with their reputation as an ‘innovative manufacturer of competitive gaming gear’ makes them the perfect companion to BenQ in this development.
Precious little has been released regarding the actual specifications of the monitor(s) (one presumes they will come in a range of sizes) other than the fact that they will be using the latest LED-backlighting technology, a phrase that implies not only will they be of top quality but that they may well cost quite a bit as well, but that shouldn’t really be a surprise if you are looking to buy they best that you can. It should be interesting to see how this compares to the likes of the LG W2486L 24″ LED monitor that we recently reviewed here on Zath.
This is really a bit of a venture for both sides of the agreement: whilst BenQ are of course known for making a whole variety of consumer electronic products (including of course monitors) they have made very few ventures into the professional gaming world despite being “an active supporter of gaming events and eSports initiatives” whilst on the other side of the coin ZOWIE are solely interested in gaming equipment but have never ventured into the world of monitors before. Of course this could end up being a case of inexperience resulting in an unsatisfactory product, but I can say with confidence that I’m sure this won’t be the case!
Enoch Huang who is the Senior Manager of Product Management within BenQ said, “Professional gamers have valuable experience and knowledge about display device performance, they are so critical about the equipment they use as even the smallest flaws can make a huge impact on their play. ZOWIE helped us understand that gamers require equipment which has been developed with certain aspects of competitive gaming in mind.”
This is nicely complimented by what Danny Ramkvist who is Chief Marketing Officer of ZOWIE GEAR commented: “I was surprised when I first experienced BenQs genuine interest and passion for competitive gaming… our cooperation proves that more companies are beginning to recognize the demand for higher performance products designed specifically for competitive gaming.” which is surely a good thing!
Unfortunately we will have to wait to later this month for any more details on this joint venture which has been done alongside ZOWIE’s resident pro-gamers Abdisamad ‘SpawN’ Mohamad and Emil ‘HeatoN’ Christensen so until then, as the press release aptly puts it, you will have to wait!
