Zath’s Technology & Gadget Roundup (16/08/09)

Written by on August 16, 2009 · Filed under Gadgets, Games, Tech

Here at Zath we like all things hi-tech, gadget and gaming-related, however unfortunately we can’t feature everything we like, thankfully there are other technology, gadget and gaming websites out there to keep up to date with the other important developments that are going on.

That being the case I thought it might be useful and interesting to everyone to highlight some of our favourite articles that might be useful and interesting to our Zath readers, but first let’s start with highlighting a few of our favourites on Zath in the past week in case you missed them!

10 Most Wanted Games…That Make Us Wish Summer 2009 Was Already Over – what does summer normally have a real lack of? Yes big name games releases, so that being the case, here’s our top 10 gaming releases that make us feel better about summer ending!

Sky 3DTV to Launch in 2010 – the vast majority of the population still haven’t even moved to high definition TV and yet Sky are going to be offering 3DTV from next year using the existing Sky HD boxes that people already have? Ambitious is what we think, but it makes an interesting change, normally we only get advances in TV years after America have had it for years!

Enter the Free Fantasy Football League – Zath Premiership 2009/10 – it’s still not too late to register your team for this year’s free fantasy football league competition here on Zath, just follow the instructions and you could be in with a chance of winning up to £50.

Washable Keyboard – now this is definitely an interesting prospect if you’re anything like me and your keyboard always end up getting into a real grimy and messy state after a few months of use – this keyboard is completely waterproof so makes giving it a thorough wash far easier – just put it in the dishwasher!

Lego Millennium Falcon (Midi-Scale) – I loved Lego as a kid and have in recent years my interest in it has definitely returned, the large, expensive Lego Millennium Falcon that we’ve previously covered here on Zath is still out of my reach, however this smaller and cheaper version is definitely one I’ll be ordering to tide me over until I can justify the expense of the full-size one!

Coolest Gadget of the Week – always a big fan of seeing some of the best and latest gadgets, Coolest Gadgets has its own roundup and competition of just that – go vote for your favourite and be in with a chance of winning $50 just for leaving a comment!

Apple iPhone Explodes: Not Enough to Shatter Consumer Confidence – ever since I got an iPhone, I’ve become a big fan of this device, sure it has certain flaws, but overall it is a great smartphone, it would appear that even if they explode people would still love them too!

Remote Controlled Buzz Lightyear – remember how popular (and hard for parents to obtain) the original Buzz Lightyear toy was when Toy Story had just been released? Well now things have really moved on technologically – you can now get your own robotic, remote controlled Buzz Lightyear that even shouts out his catchphrases! Just check out the video!

Guide: Choosing Your Windows 7 Upgrade – I’m running the Windows 7 RC and it’s brilliant, stable, quick and easy, however perhaps the one thing that Microsoft haven’t quite solved is the somewhat complicated upgrade paths that people have to follow – well hopefully this guide should make things somewhat simpler for you!

Banking Made Easy With Apple iPhone – users of a certain bank’s iPhone app can now deposit a cheque into their bank account simply by taking a photo of it with their iPhone – now that is a real advancement, although I’ve yet to do any banking on my iPhone, still have security concerns in my mind in case I lose the iPhone.

Apple Tablet Coming in Two Versions – there’s been a lot of rumour about the next potential product from Apple, a tablet-style device which would be like a larger version of the iPhone, if true, it certainly looks the part and I for one would be tempted to get one instead of a netbook!

Gimme less network noise and more social media signal – this article definitely resonates with me, I’ve recently changed the way I use Facebook, had a “purge” and removed over half my “friends”, mainly because they weren’t true friends, had no interest in what they were saying and they were just creating “noise” which made it harder to keep up with the people I really did care about.

Holograms That You Can Touch and Feel – holographic technology seems to have been slowly developing over the years, however no consumer devices really feature it yet, but now researchers are developing “touchable holograms” that give you the virtual sense of touch – how long until there’s a “holodeck” of sorts?
