Your Guide to The New Facebook Redesign
Yes, it’s that time of year again: where the people at Facebook redesign the site and people get angry because they don’t like it. Ok, that may not happen, but if past experiences are anything to go by we know that users of the number one social networking site don’t like change; but change is what they are going to get whether they like it or not.
Coming out on March 11th the new design will feature real time newsfeed updates (copying Twitter’s success, one could think) and a return to the left hand navigation (something that has been demanded for by countless groups since July last year). So let’s have a look at how it will look, and what will be different.

Facebook Filters

The filters section is one that we haven’t seen before, and one that will be welcomed by people who have annoying yet persistent friends. It will also allow you to prioritise people from certain areas or groups, a nice feature that has definitely been missing from the current version of Facebook.
Facebook Stream

The streaming section now has a more prominent position on the page, and choosing what you want to see on it will now have lots more options and (hopefully) be easier.
Facebook Publisher Status Box

The ‘status’ box has now been changed to the ‘publisher box, which despite the fact that it is fundamentally the same thing the prompt now is ‘What’s on your mind’ as opposed to ‘Mr.X …”; and if your being padantic you could also point out that it now says ‘share’ not ‘post’!
Facebook Highlights

The right hand side is now taken up by a box entitled ‘highlights’ which shows a variety of videos, photos, events and notes chosen on a basis of what your friends have been looking at. Birthdays will also be displayed here – one of the most useful features on Facebook that I’ve found!
Summary
So, although there is no amazingly radical overhaul there is still a significant amount of reshuffling and it will probably take a day or two to get used to it. But I do think it will be worth it as it returns to a more ergonomic layout rather than an aesthetic one which is definitely a step forward. So hopefully it won’t come as too much of a surprise next Wednesday!
Tell us what you think to these Facebook redesign changes, will you be joining groups because you hate the look of them? Or do you think that these changes will be useful ones? Will this re-design make you use Facebook more or less?

I first saw the designs last week and personally think it’s great!
The wider format is going to be miles better than the cramped, narrow layout we have currently.
I’m not as pleased with the Pages layout, but overall, it’s an improvement.

Change is always good. Option to pay and get rid of adverts would also be a bonus!

Personally, I don’t quite understand the userbase hysteria every time FB change ssomething. Everyone adjusts very quickly and the new stuff almost always pans out nicely.
