Xtensor Gamer Hand Exerciser

xtensor-gaming-hand-exerciserWith the notable exception of the Wii, it is very rare that we associate gaming which physical exertion, and although you may be sweaty after playing, it probably doesn’t have anything to do with you actually moving. So you’d have thought that something designed to help fine tune your body for gaming would be a none starter; but you’d be wrong.

The Xtensor Gamer Hand Exerciser does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: it exercises your hand so you can be better at gaming. It is essentially an elaborated glove with lots of springs attached meaning that in order to open your hand you need to pull your fingers on the springs.

It claims to be the only product on the market to perform with true biomechanical correctness, which allows you to stretch and build the muscles in your fingers, hands wrist and even elbow that have not previously been addressed by other products.

The science behind this all is that because of excessive gripping of the controller and/or mouse you force your muscles to contract for extended periods of time, which essentially makes them stay like that more; in fact if you relax your hand and put it out in front of you now and look at it you will see that it is probably curved to fit the keyboard and mouse perfectly.

This imbalance obviously has some medical problems, but more importantly it can also damage your gaming skills! By flexing you allow your muscles to move around, and can therefore do it quickly resulting in quicker reaction times and less time cursing that kid in Japan who just killed you.

So, that’s the ‘science’ out of the way: onto the actual product. Retailing at about £27 this little ‘glove’ can adjust to suit any hand size, and fits snugly with fabric coating on the top and a plastic underbelly which houses the sprung chords which you pull.

Admittedly there is no guarantee that this will help your gaming skills, but the science suggests it should and at the very least it should help your health: it was the 2007 winner of the Medical Design Excellence award. And not only can/should it help your gaming, but it is also effective from arthritis pain and ‘tennis elbow’.

So if you’re a gamer that has an awesome set up and quick thinking brain but not the body to match then the Xtensor Gamer Hand Exerciser could be for you! And the best bit is that you don’t need to set up a schedule or anything: if you do it every time you die, then the worse you are the more you’ll use it and the better you get (and the less you need to use it) the less you will use it! Simple!
