Xbox 360 Price Changes – Down and Up!
Following on from Sony’s announcement of the new PS3 Slim and with it, a price cut down to £250 at this year’s GamesCom, Microsoft have now announced that the Xbox 360 will be having a price change effective from Friday 28th August.
The ‘Pro’ console which comes with a 60GB hard drive will no longer be available for sale, leaving the ‘Arcade’ and ‘Elite’ consoles available on the shelves. The Elite will still keeps its 120GB hard drive but will lose the HDMI cable that was bundled with previous sets. The price of the Elite will come down to £200 – definitely a cheap Xbox 360 given what you get for your money!
Meanwhile, the Arcade console will receive a price hike up to £160 which is the current price of the Pro consoles – perhaps we won’t see anymore Xbox 360 for £100 in future?
The Arcade consoles will also lose the XBLA games that are bundled with the current Arcades packages. From the two price changes, it sounds as though not many people will bother with the Arcade console when for an extra £40 you can get a 120GB hard drive with a HDMI connection to play in full 1080p.
Maybe this is a ploy by Microsoft to phase out all their versions of the Xbox 360 and just end up the Elite as their flagship console?
What are your views on Microsofts price changes? Do you think the Elite will end up being the sole Xbox 360 on the market and what do you think to the new Arcade price? I think the Elite is a good deal but you still need to buy a HDMI cable if you want full HD.

It does seem very strange for a company to announce a price increase, surely they must be wanting rid of the Arcade model (perhaps they don’t want to compete with the cheap low-end Nintendo Wii console) and would rather take the fight to Sony and the PS3 with the Xbox Elite?
