woZZon is an application which is available for the iPhone, and shows you what’s going on around where you are. Created alongside an already impressive woZZon website, they’re now offering an app which is made incredibly easy with a well designed interface and a host of searching options.
When you first open the iPhone app, you can choose to either browse or search through events. Choosing where you want to view events (this is set to ‘Near me’ by default, but you can also alter the location manually) and when they’re taking place, you’re given a list of available categories to browse through ranging from music to museums. All you have to do is select a category and see all of the results appear on your screen, giving you a multitude of events to choose from.
If you know what you’re looking for already, you can search for the name or keyword of an event and narrow it down to a specific category for more accurate results. Simply tap ‘Find now’ and results are given to you based on your search criteria.
When viewing results, you can choose from a list view or map view. I found the list view great for flicking through various events going on, although it’s nice to see the location on a map of your area too, so the choice is a good thing to have. When you select an event, you’re given more information about it and can also see information about the location of the event, such as an address or telephone number.
Navigating between pages and search results is made simple with a subtle yet effective UI design. When in map view, there are two buttons at the top of the screen allowing you to return to the previous page and view the list of results. These are located at either side of a handy search bar, so you don’t have to go back to the home screen of the application to search for another event – you can simply do it right from the map view.
At the bottom of the screen, you can scroll between all the categories offered with the set of search results, which is not only handy but looks great too. If you want to quickly move between results, you can select ‘Prev 10’ and ‘Next 10’ to get more choices without looking at events in detail.
If you’ve ever used the woZZon website before, you’ll definitely feel right at home with the app, and it’s great to see the creaters of the service making visual changes to the site as well, which will undoubtedly make it as easy to navigate around the site as you can at the moment with the iPhone app.
Taking a great online service and tailoring it for iPhone users, woZZon is a great application, and available for free on the iPhone App Store. Hopefully, the developers will expand the app to more mobile platforms in the future, and add more location aware features to the app to make it easier to find events going on around where you are at the time of searching.
