White iPhone 4 Release Date Too Far Away? Why Not Build Your Own?

white-iphone-4-front-back-viewWhilst everyone has been ranting and raving about the iPhone 4’s antenna issue, another problem that’s infuriating budding iPhone owners equally as much is the constant delays to the release date of the white iPhone 4. This particular model perhaps makes even more of a stylish statement than the currently available black version of Apple’s latest smartphone, but might not be with us until around 30th September at the earliest – if the rumours are correct.

However, there is a work-around for those who really can’t wait for that white iPhone 4 release and don’t mind getting their paws dirty with the currently available iPhone 4….just think of it as practising to be a Foxconn employee yourself!

You can head over to WhiteiPhone4Now.com and you can grab yourself a $229 kit that includes:

  • 1 x iPhone 4 Retina Display
  • 1 x White iPhone 4 Front Panel
  • 1 x White iPhone 4 Back Cover
  • 1 x White iPhone 4 Home Button
  • 1 x White iPhone 4 Digitizer (enables touch function)
  • 1 x White iPhone 4 Front Panel Support Frame

Now, you may be thinking that basically they’ve painted the regular iPhone’s parts white and making your build your own from scratch. You’d be right, because as far as I can tell that’s exactly what they’ve done!

I can’t imagine that this small time website can get their hands on the exact parts the Apple are having such difficulty with, plus they claim they have a genuine Retina display, which isn’t exactly something you can go and make yourself.

So, whilst this may not be the most ideal solution to the white iPhone 4 delays, and the price is hugely inflated, you can’t begrudge them the novelty factor of modifying/manufacturing your own. And, you will of course be one of the first to have a white iPhone 4 whilst everyone else waits for his or her official one to finally come to market.

If you are looking to get yourself one of these kits, but don’t exactly want to start shredding your black iPhone apart, another website called BrokeMyiPhone.com will charge you an extra $54 + shipping to carry out the process for you. So, on top of the £700 you can pay for a black iPhone, you will be spending an extra £200 (ish) to paint it white. However, fear not if you would rather stick to assembling it yourself, there is a guide at iFixit for disassembling your iPhone 4.

Would you ever want to even want to think about taking your latest new gadget apart like that? Or would the though of it just make you be a little more patient?
