Speed Typing Test
Can you touch type? How fast can you type? Have you taken a free speed typing test before? What’s your words per minute (wpm) score?
I’ve tried on a couple of occasions over the years to learn how to properly touch type, but have not managed to successfully do it as yet.
Being someone who has always worked (and played) on computers, I’ve always thought it would be a great skill to have, both in a productivity and efficiency sense as well as being (to me at least) a cool ability to have – it always impresses me when people start touch speed typing in front of me.
From my previous attempts I’ve come away with a decent general idea of where the keys are and can type fairly well by only half-looking at the keyboard – I still make mistakes and the big failing for me is that I’m only ever using 4-6 fingers at best!
With that in mind, I thought that this Free Touch Speed Typing Test Online looked like an interesting test to take and was quite impressed without my results despite not being able to fully touch type.
Once you’ve taken the free speed typing test online you can then go through some touch typing lessons to try and master this very useful skill – I’m certainly going to give it another go, this would make for a great goal to achieve.
What was your score on this speed typing test? Can you touch type? Do you find it saves you a lot of time by not having to keep looking at the keys and does it allow you to write in a more free-flowing and natural way? If you need some software to properly teach yourself to touch type, I’d recommend buying Mavis Beacon Teach Typing 16 Deluxe.

Great job, Zath! For only using a few fingers and looking at the keyboard from time to time, you did very well.
I took two years of typing in high school and learned to properly touch type. It’s a very useful skill, especially for us bloggers! I just took the quiz and got 63 wpm.
Have a great day!

Wow, 80WMP, I didn’t know I was a fast typer. I guess it’s all those years of sitting behind my keyboard instead of socializing in the real world, heh!

Tish – this was the first speed typing test that I’ve ever done – I tried to learn proper touch typing back at school, but it never really worked out and was always faster using just a few fingers as I do now – I was faster than everyone else who was touch typing, good job they weren’t doing speed typing tests as part of their qualification we got!

I’m now trying to improve my touch typing by forcing myself to do it while doing things such as making comments and chatting to people on instant messaging, so it may take longer to do, but hopefully it will pay off in the long term!

105 with no mistakes.
Thing is with this there is no punctuaction so it is very easy.
With punctuation it’s closer between 85-95.
good fun though,
John
