Twitter Poker League Launched By PokerStars (#tpoker)

Do you like Twitter? Do you like playing online poker? Well now you can combine the two in a new competition being launched by PokerStars on 6th June 2010 in which they’ll be giving away $25,000 in prizes.
The Twitter Poker League will feature low buy-in of just $1.10 in the weekly Texas Hold-em tournaments that will then run for 8 weeks and bi-monthly prizes are then awarded.
After those 8 weeks the tournament resets, however overall point scoring will carry over – this format will continue until January 2011 at which point they’ll be a final for league table prize winners in which they stand a chance to win part of the $17,000 final prize fund!

I’ve not really looked into online poker much in the last few years since I left university, so am rather rusty to say the least, however Serena Obhrai organised a great event to celebrate the launch of the Twitter Poker League by inviting a bunch of bloggers and tweeters to a London casino for an evening of Poker (with the) Stars, quite literally!
On arriving at the event we were treated to drinks and chatting with a bunch of famous people…including Del Boy trying to sell me a watch!…well OK at least a night with some very good lookalike impersonators! Others in attendance included Captain Jack Sparrow, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Patsy Stone.
However, the one person that wasn’t a lookalike was Vicky Coren, the professional poker player who really was the PokerStar. I was lucky enough to be sitting next to Vicky at the poker table and so she did give me some advice on improving my poker game, unfortunately that still didn’t help me as I didn’t make the final that night. But I had fun all the same, it was great to meet her and play poker against her.
The evening’s poker tournament was eventually won by Seamus McCauley and a good night was had by all. It was a great way to learn more about how Twitter is coming together with online poker and I think most people were obviously tweeting whilst playing their hands of poker, it was all good fun, but I’m guessing that’s not always the best strategy for winning at poker!
If you’d like to learn more about the Twitter Poker League, then head on over the PokerStars Blog and remember to follow them on Twitter and keep up to date with the latest news and discussion by tweeting/searching using the hashtag of #tpoker.
Good luck to everyone playing, I’m sure it’s going to be a great PokerStars Twitter Poker League (#tpoker) competition to be involved in with some great prizes on offer, it all kicks off at 7pm (UK time) on 6th June 2010. Whilst you’re waiting for it to start, you can take a look at the following video of the poker event we attended…
