A couple of months ago I bought myself a Samsung Galaxy S3 (which was a rather pleasant and substantial upgrade over my iPhone 4), so when I was offered the chance to attend a preview event of the WIRED Pop-Up Store, I was certainly looking forward to seeing what kind of technology a respected magazine publisher and Samsung could assemble into a temporary high street space in the run-up to Christmas!
The whole idea of this collaboration is to present the concept of the “New Industrial Revolution” – where creative thinking is meeting new technologies to inform new manufacturing techniques, product customisation and SMART business innovations – and give a glimpse into the world in 2013.
With that in mind, there will be several innovative and exciting products on show, some of which include the following…
- MakerBot – 3D printing for home usage
- Archbotics Hexapod – customisable personal robots
- Autographer – a life-logging camera
- WikiHouse – a flat-pack house that you can design and build yourself
- GoCycle and ZBoard – the latest in electric transportation
- BERG – a small network printer that can offer you custom newspapers everyday
In addition to those, there will also be the chance to take a look at the very latest Samsung 75″ ES9000 SMART TV, which not only shows off the quality of the latest HDTV displays in a slimline design, but it is also “SMART”. Not only do you get built-in internet functionality that allows you to stream your favourite content from the services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, LoveFilm and Netflix, but it means that you can also control it using voice, motion and face recognition! – It’s like living in the future!
During the course of the week-long WIRED Pop-Up Store, they’ll be a whole host of evening events, expert talks and live recording sessions for BBC Radio 4 and the WIRED Weekly Podcast, therefore lots to see and do, so if you’re in the area, be sure to go and take a look at what’s happening as the store and events will be running through until the 5th December!
