The Stig Revealed?
Has Top Gear’s ‘The Stig’ been revealed? Well we posed the question of ‘Who is the Stig?‘ on the BBC’s Top Gear show nearly two years ago when we found a foreign TV show segment in which we heard the Stig speaking for the first time – well the first time the White Stig spoke at any rate!
The Telegraph has today reported that the White Stig is actually Ben Collins who has previously driven in Formula Three, Le Mans, GT and NASCAR and also appeared on Top Gear as himself! How it has been revealed reads like a rather strange thing to be doing if you have a secret identity, would you catch Clark Kent asking for a limited edition print of Superman in action?
Or if you have a whole display of the white suit, gloves and helmet in your house, wouldn’t you make that contractors coming into your house wouldn’t see it?
The original Top Gear Stig aka the Black Stig was killed off by performing a jump off an aircraft carrier after he was unmasked, so you’ve got to wonder if this news is true, will the White Stig face the same fate?
Apparently a Top Gear spokesman has said: “We never comment on speculation as to who or what The Stig is.” – trying to keep the mystery there obviously by not stating he’s even human!
What do you think having read that article, has the Stig been revealed? Do we now have an answer to ‘Who is the Stig?’ Will we now be seeing one of Stig’s foreign cousins coming in to replace him?

It never occurred to me that it might just be one person, I assumed they’d have at least 2-3 racing drivers to choose from on different filming days, and certainly someone else doing the training for the star in a reasonably priced car segment.

Good point David, after hearing some of the rumours who The Stig could have been in the past, then I could quite well believe it might have been more than the one person – although I suppose there’s then more chance that the identity of at least one of the drivers comes out…unless that’s what’s happened here – perhaps this guy is just one of the Top Gear Stigs???

It does make you wonder doesn’t it David? In a way I’m surprised they managed to keep the secret as long as they did – I wonder if they will replace him again and we’ll just end up being in the same situation about finding out who The Stig again? Or perhaps if he is replaced, they may go down the route of a ‘guest driver’ as The Stig each episode.
