Windows Mobile iPhone Theme Update
April 4, 2009
A little while ago I wrote about the fact that you can get a Windows Mobile iPhone theme for your Microsoft-based smartphone, since then I’ve been running the updated version of this software on my HTC Tytn II and thought I’d let you know how I was finding it to use on a day-to-day basis.
First of all, I should say that the version I got was actually the updated Windows Mobile iPhone theme which meant that it also now has additional features which further improve upon the original version.

We have already looked at a couple of the leading top smartphones (Apple iPhone 3G and the HTC Touch HD) so it is time that we moved on to the third, and this one is a good example of how the ‘smartphone’ market is expanding. The Nokia E71 is the flagship of their business line up (which includes others such as the clunky yet versatile N96) and it is our first example of a ‘traditional’ smartphone.
This is different from the iPhone and the Touch HD because of the fact that it uses a QWERTY keyboard instead of a large touchscreen. This itself is something that automatically gives the phone certain advantages and disadvantages over the previous ones we’ve seen. The physical keyboard makes it easier and nicer to type, but the lack of a large screen means you can fit less on it, it limits multimedia offerings and you don’t get the ease of use that a touchscreen provides.

By now you will know what smartphones are and what we are looking for in a top smartphone, but does the HTC Touch HD have what it takes? They are becoming increasingly popular not only in the business sector but also for those who just want an ultimate phone. We’ve looked at the iPhone 3G which is widely accepted as the market leader, but what have the rest of the pack got to offer and do they even compete with the iPhone’s usability and design?
We move onto the HTC Touch HD which is the latest offering from the portable computing manufacturer, and at first look it is quite impressive. It has a nice black design and makes full use of it with a large touchscreen taking up most of the front of the phone, and like the iPhone there isn’t a QWERTY keyboard in sight.

ESET have announced that they will be a releasing a mobile phone antivirus software application in January 2009.
ESET are the producers of one of the best antivirus (NOD32) and security suites (ESET Smart Security suite) currently available – I’ve personally been using their NOD32 software for over 4 years and have recommended it to many people over the years. One of the best things about it is that it combines good protection while taking up small amounts of resources, so your computer isn’t noticeably slowed down by it.
When I begin using a new computer or set up a new Windows installation, installing a form of anti-virus software on it is one of the first things I do, if not the first thing! Will people want to have to do this with their mobile phones? Or perhaps the handsets will come pre-installed with mobile versions of antivirus applications – I’m not sure if this would be a good thing or a bad thing!

What’s this? Microsoft are giving away free downloadable ringtones for Windows Mobile? Well I recently upgraded the operating system on my HTC Tytn II to Windows Mobile 6.1 and in so doing I ended up registering with Microsoft as a Windows Mobile user which means I’ve been receiving a monthly email with the latest news and applications that’s available for my HTC Tytn II.
As part of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile site, there’s section that contains free downloadable ringtones that you can download and use on your smartphone/mobile phone. There are plenty of different categories to choose from, you can preview and play the ringtone before downloading.

Orange recently released their Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the Orange Tytn II which is available for you to download and install on your mobile phone.
Installing Windows Mobile 6.1 onto my Orange Tytn II was the first time that I’d actually attempted to update the operating system software installed on a mobile phone and as such I was a cautious about it – the last thing I wanted to do was screw up my mobile phone which was working perfectly well.
Windows Mobile 6.1 features the following upgrades and new features for your Windows-based smartphone:

September 4, 2008
Have you seen the Windows Mobile iPhone themes that are out on the Internet? I have a Windows Mobile phone, however one of the things it lacks is the iPhone theme which is a very intuitive and cool looking user interface that Apple has come up with – it certainly is very different from your regular style of user interface that you get on most mobile phones.
In the year since it first appeared, it’s had a real influence on other how other manufacturers are developing their own interfaces, however I’ve yet to find one that truly rivals it.
