Facebook In Real Life?

August 1, 2009

facebook-logoFacebook as a social networking tool can be like many things, either really useful or really bad, it just depends how you want to use it and whether you use it to do something worthwhile or not. So when you see a funny video that tries to show just how you would be using it if you did the same kind of things in real life – it does make you stop and think for a moment about what you do online, similar to the Twitter in Real Life video we showed not too long ago.

Opera Unite Jukebox

June 18, 2009

opera-browser-logoYesterday we had a look at Opera Unite’s attempt to ‘revolutionise’ the web and although it’s hard to gauge its long term success at this moment in time, it does look like it could well change the way we use the internet as they’ve promised.

An integral part of the Unite idea is the apps which run on it, so we thought we’d have a look at one of the most popular ones and see what it is, how it utilises Opera Unite and whether it is actually worth using, and the one that caught our eye first was the Opera Unite Jukebox.

Opera Unite – A Web Revolution?

June 17, 2009

opera-browser-logoIf there’s one phrase that we have heard far too much of over the last few months (apart from credit crunch) it’s ‘revolutionising the web’. Numerous companies, most notable Google with their Wave, claim that their ideas will change the way we think about the internet, and what we do on it.

And so Opera (with 15 years of ‘browser innovation’ behind them, including having the impressive Opera Mobile 9.5) have released their plan, and it comes in the shape of Unite which essentially turns any computer running Opera – admittedly not many at the moment – into a web server. Although this may sound simple or even irrelevant it could well spell the future for internet browsing.

Twitter In Real Life?

June 6, 2009

twitter-logoBy now most of us have at least heard about Twitter, if only in some reference from the mainstream media, if you’re still not entirely sure what it is then take a look at some of our previous Twitter-related articles here on Zath, but what if you want a quick and easy to understand explanation (or parody) which relates to real-life situations, then take a look at this video below!

Twitter Gives Better Results Than Google?

May 19, 2009

twitter-logoCan Twitter ever be better than Google? Well perhaps in the future we might get a definitive answer to that question; however I thought I’d write about a recent situation where I found that Twitter gave me a better result when looking for an answer than the mighty Google did! Especially given I was originally I was anything but an advocate of Twitter, in fact a couple of years ago when I started this blog I was a big skeptic and did question of what is the point of Twitter?

First of all, I’m not comparing Twitter’s in-built searching capability of tweets with that of Google’s searching of webpages – I’m sure Google is still the finest indexer of information out there and if there is an answer to what you’re looking for, I believe it can get you to it more efficiently than other search engines, be it Yahoo, MSN/Live, Ask Jeeves or the recently released Wolfram Alpha.

Twitter Clients & Applications

October 21, 2008

twitter-logoI thought I’d give a little update as to how I’ve been using Twitter and what I currently think to it given my initial Twitter scepticism for the service when I first started blogging over 18 months ago – how times have changed, how those archives can come back to haunt you! ;)

If you’ve been following Zath on Twitter for the past few weeks you’ll already know that I tend to go through days of several Twitter updates to some where I may only reply to other people’s Twitter – essentially using it as a chat or IM service. Either way, I’m finding that the Twitter community is a great one to be a part of and have found people answering questions that I’ve Twittered even though we may not have chatted before.

Follow Zath on Twitter!

September 9, 2008

twitter-logoDo you Twitter? I have to admit that I was very sceptical about this Twittering malarkey – I thought it was just a pointless thing to be doing as I wrote about in one of my early posts where I questioned the point of Twitter? However, that said, I have to admit that I think I was wrong about it and am now perhaps a little late to the Twitter party, but better late than never!

Twitter is essentially a way of letting people know what you’re currently up to or thinking – pretty much like people update their Facebook status, a mini-blog so to speak! In fact I have my Facebook status set up to update to whatever I post as a Twitter update by installing the Twitter application onto my Facebook account.
