Sony Ultra-Compact DSLR Camera Concept Preview

March 18, 2010

sony-ultra-compact-camera-concept-smallHere’s an interesting announcement. Sony have announced a new addition to their ‘alpha’ range of DSLR cameras at the recent PMA 2010 conference. However, this latest installment adds extra functionality, interchangeable lenses and a new user interface.

So what does this mean? Well it fits in with what they call ‘anytime, anywhere’ convenience. For example, when out and about you want a quality camera that will fit snugly inside your bag or perhaps even pocket. On other occasions where photography is a necessity, you may want to attach a more capable lens to get the perfect shot. It’s all about versatility and allowing the freedom to do more with a single camera. Sony are aiming to stretch out to each end of the photographer spectrum from the occasional snapper, to the real enthusiasts.

Microsoft Courier – Digital Journal Tablet Device? (Rumour)

March 15, 2010

microsoft-courier-digital-journal-in-hands-smallA while back we learned about an upcoming new device called the Microsoft Courier. Since then the announcement and impending release of the Apple iPad has somewhat stolen the spotlight, but now the dust has settled, rumours of the Courier have risen once more and from what i can gather so far, the device most certainly has potential.

Of course, nothing is set in stone, but Engadget ran a post featuring pictures and video’s of the potential features and user interface of the courier and claimed news arrived from, and i quote, ‘an extremely trusted source’.

So what’s it all about then? Well my initial impression tells me that you would be mistaken to perceive the device as an iPad competitor. Whilst the dual screens would make it an excellent ebook-reader, it seems it would have difficulty being an adequate portable media player or lightweight gaming option such as the iPad. It is in fact described as a ‘digital journal’, which sums it up quite nicely in my opinion.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time Review (PS3)

February 28, 2010

ratchet-and-clank-a-crack-in-time-ps3-coverI’ve been waiting ages to play the new instalment in the Ratchet and Clank franchise ever since I saw the Crack In Time teaser trailer and got the chance to play the demo. I’ve now finally got my wish and ‘Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time‘ was well worth the wait!

The story is the final part of the Ratchet and Clank Future ‘trilogy’. At the end of Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Clank was abducted by the Zoni leaving Ratchet without his faithful friend at his side. Then Insomniac released the PSN Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, which saw Ratchet searching for Clank and his whereabouts but to no avail.

But in Crack in Time, Ratchet and Clank finally find each other again to save the universe. But this isn’t until at the very end as for the majority of the game Ratchet and Clank are doing their own thing. Ratchet is trying to find Clank, whilst Clank finds himself in the great clock which is holding time itself together.

Hodge On The Run…For Charity! – Jan 2010 (Video)

February 25, 2010

hodge-on-the-run-logoNo we’re not talking about a Prison Break-style fugitive being on the run, no this is Dom “The Hodge” Hodgson who has set himself a challenge for the year 2010, other than working on his various projects such as organising Think Visibility 2010 and much like he set himself one for 2009 (which was to blog everyday on The Hodge blog). However, this year it’s more of a physical challenge, specifically he’ll be doing a series of runs during the course of the year and raising money for charity along the way.

Microsoft Browser Ballot – You’re “Open To Choice”

February 23, 2010

internet-browser-logosIn recent months and years there has been an extremely lengthy and somewhat tiresome squabble between technology giants Microsoft and the European Commission over how unfair it is that Internet Explorer web browser is packed into the Windows operating system and many users never become aware of any alternative such as Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s Safari or more recently Google’s Chrome. Anyway, the result of the conflict is that users of Windows PC’s will soon be faced with a big decision.

You will be presented with the choice via a selection process that will appear on your PC within the next few weeks. Testing of the process will be next week in several countries including the UK, and you can download it via Windows Update. Eventually though, it will be an automated update that everybody that’s connected to the internet, should receive.

The Crazies Trailer – Put Your Face In It! (Sponsored Post)

February 18, 2010

If you haven’t already heard about it, there’s a new film coming out in the next few weeks called “The Crazies” – you may have already started seeing the trailer (if not then take a look at it below) in which a small Iowa town becomes poisoned and plagued by madness and death with only a group of four people left unaffected. This small group of people obviously need to get away from the town alive and before the military come in to “clean up” the problem.

So it’s your classic American survival horror flick, a re-make of the 1973 movie of the same name, although this new movie includes the original director (George A Romero) as a co-writer, so it will no doubt have some of the same influences as the 70s original. You can see The Crazies in your local cinema from the 26th February 2010.

Eye-Controlled Earphones For MP3 Players?

February 17, 2010

Occasionally you stumble upon things that just look too weird, futuristic or downright bizarre that you have to look around to double check that it’s not just someone having a joke, and the new ‘eye sensing’ earphones which have been demonstrated by NTT Docomo Inc fit into that category quite well.

The two earphones effectively track the movement of the eye, which is then recorded and used to do whatever it is you had in mind using some pretty nifty technology borrowed from the methods used in the medical fields to achieve the same outcome – measuring the movement of the eye.

The Puma Phone – A Sporty Mobile Phone?

February 17, 2010

Yet another interesting and innovative device has been thrown up at this year’s MWC. The much anticipated PUMA phone is now upon us and it certainly adds something new and unique to the line up of great mobile devices already announced at the event in Barcelona.

PUMA AG and Sagem Wireless have unveiled a mobile device which not only looks great, but contains some incredible technology that they hope will enhance the world of mobile devices in years to come. This is for one simple reason, although packed with great features, this sleek and compact device contains an integrated solar cell along with a charge indicator. This means that your device will charge whilst on the go, no need to leave it at home or take your bulky charger along with you.
