Steam Coming To Mac OS X (Digital Games Distribution)

March 9, 2010

steam-logoI know, I know, Christmas happened way back in December, but presents are better late than never! In case any of you Apple fanboys out there missed the news, Steam announced yesterday morning that they’re bringing their service to the Mac along with a great library of games which will be available to purchase like PC users running Steam.

In case you’ve not used used it before, Steam is probably the best digital games distribution platform out there, which most of the big and small games publishers are now using to cut out the need for physical media distribution for games. Not only are publishers using it to release new games, but also to find a market for their older games, for example Lucasarts re-released some of their older classic titles. It’s fair to say that we’re big fans of it here at Zath.

Eurogamer Expo 2009 Review (London Gaming Show)

November 2, 2009

eurogamer-expo-2009-logoHere at Zath we like to do things properly, so when we thought we’d check out the Eurogamer Expo 2009 not only did a couple of us visit the Leeds gaming show but I headed off down to London to get a fuller picture of what was at the Eurogamer’s gaming show and see some of the things that the others didn’t have time to investigate.

So after a relatively quick train ride next to a man talking to his watch (the downside of putting phones on your wrist), I like my Zath counterparts, entered the Eurogamer Expo 2009 this time housed in the Old Billingsgate just a few hundred meters down the river from Tower Bridge and I have to say I too was impressed!

Left 4 Dead 2 Preview

June 2, 2009

left-4-dead-2-logoOh yeah, there are more hordes of zombies coming! ‘Left 4 Dead 2’ has been announced at E3 2009, the sequel to Valve’s hit co-operative multiplayer game of 2008 in which you play your way through several zombie movie style scenarios with up to 3 of your friends to back you up…or to leave you for dead quite literally! As was the case with a so-called friend of mine who legged it to safety on a boat whiles the rest of us got sacrificed in a farmhouse! Not that I’m bitter or anything…in being Left 4 Dead too…honest! ;)

Left 4 Dead Review (PC)

March 16, 2009

left-4-dead-pc-coverLeft 4 Dead? – A first person shooter game that does just that, it leaves you for dead as you to play through a zombie apocalypse movie with your friends as one of four survivors! – Why hasn’t this been done before now?

I’ve liked the Source game engine ever since I first played Half Life 2 and it’s good to see Valve continuing to develop it as they release more games using it such as the episodic updates to Half Life – but I also like that they are creating some very different types of games using it like Portal and now we’ve got another in the form of Left 4 Dead.

‘Left 4 Dead’ – 50% Off on Steam

February 14, 2009

left-4-dead-logo-greenI’ve been looking at getting Left 4 Dead since it was released late last year, but haven’t got round to it…until now! Steam are offering 50% off Left 4 Dead on Steam for this weekend only, so if you’ve also been interested in this game, then this weekend is the time to get it…and get your mates to get it too while it’s cheap!

Why should you tell your friends about this game as well? I’ll tell you why, Valve created Left 4 Dead game (using the same Source game engine as their Half Life 2 game) from the ground up with the intention that it would be a 4 player co-operative game in which you and three friends play through several zombie-movie-style post-apocalyptic environments trying to survive a non-stop onslaught of zombies.

I recently tried and failed to buy Grand Theft Auto 4 in local stores around the day of release – yeah I know I should pre-ordered it a long time ago, but what can I say, every other GTA game I’ve played has been on the PC, so I’ve never experienced places having no stocks, plus I’m used to waiting at least 6 months anyway!
