New Sony DR-350USB / DR-320DPV ‘Dual Use’ Headsets

March 15, 2010

sony-dr-350usb-dr-320dpv-dual-use-headsets-smallOne of the problems that you are likely to face if you go out looking for a headset is that, for the most part, they are very uni-purpose and you are more often than not going to have to have a separate headset for gaming/VOIP etc at home, and another for listening to music on the go.

Having said that they are definitely getting more compact and discrete (such as the Steel Series Siberia V2 we looked at a while back) and now Sony’s two releases – the DR-350USB and DR-320DPV – are testament to this dual purpose aim.

Claiming to be the “stylish alternative to flimsy, drab looking headsets” they certainly fulfil the first part of that with the slim, smooth and ultimately quite discrete design, and the DR-320DPV comes in the usual Sony range of colours namely red or black – which as they suggest you could choose to match your VIAO laptop, although to be honest the fact that they have decided not to do that in the advertising material suggests it may look a little odd!

Contour USB Diabetes Meter / Monitoring System

March 5, 2010

contour-usb-diabetes-meter-monitoring-system-smallDiabetes affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide and is predicted by some to become one of, if not the biggest health issues of the 21st century. Up to now, many diabetics manage their blood glucose levels using some form of electronic reader.

They are then left up to their own devices to keep a note of any recurring trends which need to be addressed. This could mean that problems go unnoticed could cause further issues in the long term.

Thankfully, Bayer Diabetes Care have come up with a solution for simpler management of the condition. Their Contour USB Diabetes Meter accurately records up to 2000 readings of blood glucose levels and directly plugs into any PC via USB. It contains 500Mb of storage for all your personal diabetes records and information.

Apple Mac Mini Review

January 27, 2010

Last week I bought myself an Apple Mac Mini and after a few mishaps regarding video adapters, I finally got it up and running towards the end of the week. Needless to say I was growing ever more impatient as it was sat on my desk doing little more than collecting dust and awaiting the arrival of the correct adapter.

Having been an avid Windows user for my entire life up to this point, I was originally apprehensive about switching. Obviously, I have had the odd experience with Mac OS X before and was impressed to say the least, but I have not had the opportunity before now to explore the entire operating system. Anyway, on with the Mac Mini review!

Even before I had torn through the Mac Mini’s packaging on delivery, you could tell just how tiny the machine was. The entire box was easy to carry in one hand which is remarkable considering this is no lightweight in terms of performance or build quality. I opted for the basic model as I decided the extra juice was unnecessary for my purpose with the machine.

Minoru 3D Webcam – Online Video Chat In 3D!

December 15, 2009

minoru-3d-webcamThe Minoru 3D Webcam is the world’s first 3D webcam! It’s a groundbreaking innovation which gives you not only a great standard webcam, but more importantly, the ability to view you and your friends in 3D. The technology is similar to the current standard of 3DTV which unfortunately, requires the stupid glasses, but nothing like this has ever been incorporated into a webcam before.

The device features 2 cameras which allows for the 3D imaging. In terms of aesthetic it is a goofy-looking camera which will cling on to the top of your monitor, but makes for quite a cool novelty webcam in itself.

December 10, 2009

film-2-sd-photo-negative-scanner-usbThe Film 2 SD Negative Scanner is an excellent and extremely useful gadget that allows you to take all those old negatives you have lying around, and scan them onto a removable memory card that you find in most modern cameras without the need for a computer.

Once you have fed the strip of negatives into your scanner, you can preview the picture on a small screen on the front of the machine. Therefore you can choose the ones you want to scan onto the memory card and discard the ones you don’t.

Patriot XT Boost 150x 8Gb USB Flash Drive Review

December 8, 2009

patriot-xt-boost-150x-usb-memory-stickI’d seldom care to review an everyday item such as a USB flash drive, but when my old Kingston drive was pulling errors every time I removed it from a Windows PC I suspected that it was about to stop working all together – I was right, the next day the whole thing was a corrupted mess (2 days after I had to buy a new Netgear DGN2000 ADSL wireless router!) so I was on the lookout for another USB pen drive.

When I saw the claims that the Patriot XT Boost (8GB) USB memory stick was “Ultra Fast, Rugged, Waterproof and Shock Resistant” I couldn’t help myself from clicking the little shopping cart in the corner of the screen to try it out for myself… and test those claims in a Gadget Show kind of style! Naturally, the first thing I did after un-boxing it was throw it off the top of my roof. Twice! In case you’re wondering, yes I did throw it pretty hard (which probably isn’t hard at all) and yes, it did survive the fall. Ruggedness? Check.

Washable Keyboard (USB or PS/2)

December 8, 2009

washable-keyboard-being-washedSometimes there is so much dirt and mess between the keys on your keyboard that simply wiping it down isn’t the answer and picking each bit out individually is dirty and time consuming. There are other options such as a desktop vacuum cleaner, but this Washable Keyboard is unique and extremely useful.

The washable keyboard is probably the cleanest and most hygienic keyboard you are likely to have ever owned. Not only can you rinse it down, dunk it in a bowl of water or even leave it in the dishwasher, it even has anti-bacterial covers so that you never get anything that may cause it to release bad smells every now and again.
