Using Windows 7 RC? There’s Still Time For Vista!
July 25, 2009
I put the Bill-gasam of pictures up there because it makes me smile. Nothing to do with the story, but man, look at that nerd go.. Top left is “yeah, we’re really gonna screw ‘em”.
Anyway, if, like me, you’ve downloaded the Windows 7 RC and have been happily using it for several months as your primary operating system, there is something I’d like to draw attention to.
I’m sorry if this sounds like on of 14 life lessons from He-Man, but I had a conversation with a colleague today at work which made me realise that it might be a good idea to point out the obvious, so here it is: No one should be relying on Windows 7 right now.

June 9, 2009
So, the eagerly anticipated new iPhone 3GS release happened last night (well, BST anyway) and my, wasn’t everyone a little peeved! Although I spent most of my time chuckling at the hordes of people infecting my Twitter account with talk of the same damn thing, I found solace in knowing that none of it affected me. I have avoided the iPhone so far, but in the last few months have really had urges to own one.
It turns out that O2 aren’t happy with their ridiculous monopoly over the iPhone and want to still charge their loyal customers hundreds of pounds to upgrade to the shiny new 3rd generation toy. You know what means, right? Yep – Twitter has been overrun once again with complaints from all sides of the UK.

October 24, 2008
PS3 hard disk upgrades are easy to do, at least that was what was mentioned in the comments of our recent ‘new PS3 160GB’ post – with that in mind I thought I would go out and do a little research on this subject to see just what is involved.
I was pleasantly surprised to see just how simple Sony have made the process of replacing a corrupted hard disk and also that of upgrading your PS3 hard disk to a larger capacity – which in turn means you don’t have to go out and buy a new PS3 to replace your smaller hard disk model.

September 10, 2008
Do you think that a World of Warcraft graphics upgrade is needed? I was recently talking with a friend about the potential requirement for this and thought that this would make for an interesting discussion here too!
He was basically saying that having looked at the other major MMORPGs on the market, most of them have had graphical updates to their game engines in the last year. By doing this the developers then hope to extend the life of the current game by keeping existing players and potentially gaining new ones off the back of the improved graphics, however I wasn’t convinced that Blizzard would be taking the same approach with World of Warcraft.

Xbox 360 Spring 2007 Update – An In-Depth Video
April 20, 2007
Following up on my previous post about the Spring update to Xbox 360, there is now a video segment that you can view that covers a lot of the main features (apprantly there are hundreds of new things in this update) in detail and shows some real improvements to many areas of the console and your user experience whether it’s playing games, watching video or simply chatting with friends.
The video stretches to nearly 24 minutes long, but is very informative (thankfully in a relaxed manner) and worth sitting through – when the update goes live on 7th May, you’ll be familiar with and be able to use the major features pretty much straight away!

April 8, 2007
The Xbox 360 ‘dashboard’ interface normally gets updated with new features and fixes every 6 months, the next one is scheduled for 7th May 2007 and is rumoured to include the following:
- Instead of just showing ‘Play Game’ at the bottom of the screeen, it will show which disc you currently have in the drive – the number of times I’ve opened the drive or loaded up a disc just to see what’s in the drive – now that’s progress!
- Windows Live (MSN) Messenger functionality can be added to your Xbox Live account allowing you to communicate with your friends while on your Xbox – although it takes me forever to type out messages with my Xbox controller as it is, so you’d hope voice chat was an option!
- Improved Achievements functionality.
- Xbox Live Marketplace to get it’s own ‘blade’, presumably to make it easier for us to spend our cash on stuff!
- Option to put your Xbox in low power mode for downloading which then shuts down when complete – again another good idea given I often leave it on over night.
Black Xbox 360 On Its Way?
March 20, 2007
Following rumours that have been flying round the Internet for the past month or two now about a possible new Xbox 360 model, according to Kotaku it’s true – they are reporting that a gaming magazine is unveiling the updated Xbox 360 in their April issue. Apparantly it’s not an April Fool – or at least we’re hoping not – it sure wouldn’t go down well with the gaming community now!
This model has been code-named the “Zephyr” will be priced around $479 and will include these specifications:
- It’s black in colour!
- 120GB Hard Drive – a lot bigger than the current 20GBs, but if the idea is that this will help their IPTV project (TV on Internet), I’d have preferred one around the 200-250GB range for storing Hi-Def TV and movies, surely it wouldn’t added that much more to the cost?
- HDMI port and cable for connection to your Hi-Def TV.
- DVD drive like the original models, so you’ll still need to get the external HD-DVD drive if you want Hi-Def movies – I wonder if they’ll release that in black too, otherwise you’re stuck with a real mis-match there, even I know that and I know nothing about contrasting colours!
