Google’s Nexus One Gets Multi-Touch & Vodafone UK Release Date Soon?
February 2, 2010
Huge news for all you Android fans out there, especially in the States – the Google Nexus One mobile phone received a software update earlier today enabling multitouch on not only the default browser, but also on the Google Maps and Gallery apps.
There was speculation of whether the European version of Google’s latest phone would have multitouch enabled by default like Motorola’s Droid (known as the Motorola Milestone in Europe), but few expected a US software update so soon enabling multitouch.

December 22, 2009
All the way back in October we brought you the news of the release of the refreshed line up of Lavasoft’s flagship security software: Ad-Aware Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware and now two months later we’re back to have a look at how it’s fared and whether or not the new versions deserve the reputation that the brand has gained over the last few years.
So why two months? Yes it is quite a while but one of the (if not the) most important aspects of AV software is its ability to adapt to new threats and over this time we’ve seen a whole host of new problems arise – so can even the Free version of Ad-Aware cope?

November 27, 2009
I love the ease of updating applications in Mac OS X, be it third party or system applications, but ensuring every one of your apps is up to date is a hard thing to do, especially ones you don’t see often but do a key job.
When I was looking for something to update every application I have, I came across AppFresh, a free download that not only checks to see if there are any updates available for your programs, but downloads and installs these updates for you, helping to keep not only your programs up to date, but even your widgets, preference panes and plugins, which I thought was a great addition. It’s similar in idea to Filehippo application updater for the PC, but perhaps even better!

October 31, 2009
When I checked Software Update to see if there was any new software available for my Mac, I wasn’t too surprised to see an iTunes update, v9.0.2, following the update of the Apple TV. When I was scanning the release notes, I saw something quite interesting…
“iTunes 9.0.2 adds support for Apple TV software version 3.0, adds an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility”

October 22, 2009
The anti-spyware ‘pioneers’ Lavasoft have been around for a while now, and now they’re back with a new release of the latest version of the flagship software Ad-Aware Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware which promises a host of new features in addition to those that have already proved to be effective and popular.
The additions that have been made are fairly widespread and cover all aspects from the mechanism that the anti-virus and spyware work to increasing the ‘community’ aspect which will allow for greater customisation (with things such as custom skins and community driven translations) and gives the ability to create add-ons and plug-ins through the Ad-Aware public API.

“Bring On The Pain!”
Ages ago now (sorry), realising that I couldn’t really say what I had intended to say about Apple without actually going through the “fail” process for myself after writing iPhone 3.0: The Dark Side – Part 1, I decided to sacrifice my un-activated 1.0 iPhone in the name of science, and upgraded the firmware to iPhone 3.0. Here’s how it went…
I connected the iPhone to my PC, then waited the 45 minutes or so it takes for Apple’s flagship product to load in Windows. It duly reported that a firmware update was available, so I chose to install and waited. After downloading and installing, the iPhone re-booted and reported that it was waiting to be activated. “That’s all folks!” I thought, but after 2 minutes of sitting doing nothing, my iPhone gave up trying to activate and just turned on and worked.

I know what you’re thinking.
Here’s the Windows Nerd, back for another round of Apple bashing. Well let me get a few things straight right now before we begin. I own an iPhone and more than that, I think it pretty excellent. There is absolutely nothing out there that even comes close to the intuitive user interface, the plethora of fantastic apps and the sheer usability of what is quite simply, the best phone ever made. Am I going to use an awkward, clunky Windows Mobile interface, or am I going to use an iPhone? Hmm, tough call isn’t it?

December 21, 2008
You have probably heard of the AZN Trojan which has been causing havoc in the Internet world over the last week, but if you haven’t you really should so read on. But for those who have, you will be relieved to know that Microsoft has released a patch for the vulnerability which should stem the problems occurred when browsing using Internet Explorer (IE). This is great news for those IE lovers out there who have been using an alternative for the last week, or the more foolish ones that have been using IE regardless.
Those that are ignorant and righteous may be laughing at those stupid enough to download dodgy material, and thinking that it couldn’t happen to them. But they would be horribly wrong because this exploitation of invulnerability means that all you have to do is go on infected website to “contract” the virus, and suffer the consequences of it.

It’s a bit of a strange one, this. I was going to write a straight review of the iPhone 2.2 Firmware, but I don’t think the circumstances under which I came to use it really qualify me to write a fair review, so I won’t. Instead, I’ll tell you about my experiences with Firmware 2.2, which I hope is perhaps just as interesting.
I’ve never paid a penny for an iPhone, and the one I have now is an 8GB first-gen model which was given to me by my Dad, who’s decided that he doesn’t need all the bells and whistles and just wants a phone (I know exactly how he feels).
Obviously it doesn’t work as a phone anymore, but it still works over Wi-Fi and functions in every way, apart from voice calls, cellular data and SMS. It’s not got GPS or any of the other enhancements in the new generation of iPhone 3Gs and this is the primary reason I chose not to do a straight review, because a lot of my iPhones failings may because of the hardware, so to make summary judgment over the Firmware alone would perhaps be unfair.
Anyway, the iPhone is basically a big fat lie.

November 25, 2008
On the day of release the first Football Manager 2009 update v9.1.0 was available for the game – how’s that for service from Sports Interactive?
Obviously, some people could view this as being a bugged game being sent out for release too early, but I’m pleased to see that the guys over at Sports Interactive have that much commitment to their franchise that they are always looking to fix bugs and improve it to make Football Manager the best football management game out there.
This year marks the first year that Football Manager will be available through Valve’s Steam system – their digital game distribution download system has been really successful since it was launched with Half Life 2 and it’s now probably the leading platform out there.
