Playstation Move Announced (PS3 Motion Controller)

March 11, 2010

sony-playstation-move-ps3-motion-controllerIt’s taken a while for the official name of the Playstation 3 motion controller, ‘wand’, ‘arc’ or whatever else people wanted to call it, but Sony have released the official name for their motion controller as the ‘Playstation Move‘.

The announcement was made at GDC yesterday along with a trailer of the type of games that we’ll be looking at playing to start off with. With true 1:1 motion control, it is said to be more responsive than Nintendo’s Wii Motion Plus controllers which is a bold statement.

I’m looking forward to seeing just how the PS3 Move is and what kind of games will be released for it. The fact we’ll be able to play motion controlled games in HD isn’t really a major factor. What I want is a game that uses Move and to get me really immersed in the action. I’m not one for the gimmicky party titles so I’d like to see some new IP games created for use with Move and see how that pans out.

Tron Legacy Trailer #2

March 9, 2010

tron-legacy-posterI mentioned last week that Disney were talking about a possible Tron trilogy, but only if the new Tron Legacy does well at the cinema.

Well following on from the back of that news, a new trailer has been released and I cannot wait to see this film. Looking at the original Tron trailer, you can see how dated it is, yet is still remains a classic. But Tron Legacy will be the way that Tron was meant to be seen, and the fact that we’ll be able to watch it in 3D is all the more exciting.

Iron Man 2 Trailer #2

March 8, 2010

iron-man-2-poster-war-machineA new Iron Man 2 trailer is doing the rounds on the big WWW and it’s looking like it could be just as good, if not even better than the first. From what I saw, it looks like Tony Stark is lapping up his new found mega fame as Iron Man, but the US government aren’t best pleased and want Iron Man to be owned by the US Military.

A bit more is shown of Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash and of Iron Man and War Machine fighting together which does look pretty awesome! There’s also a new Iron Man suit this time around which looks like a portable suit of some kind that Tony Stark can carry around with him, but don’t worry, the red and gold suit is still there.

Wolfman Review

March 2, 2010

wolfman-posterWolfman (15)

Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt
Director: Joe Johnston
Running Time: 102 minutes

I like most people have never seen the original 1941 film ‘The Wolf Man’, so despite being a remake this subtly reworded film (notice the one word rather than two!) this film pretty much had a clean slate – however much Universal tried to mess it up by taking years to make it, struggling to find a director and having numerous re-edits!

I’m also not a massive horror fan – that is not to say I don’t like them, rather I won’t go out of my way to watch them – so you can take my word with slightly more validity than a horror addict that this was in fact an enjoyable film despite the at best mediocre reviews it has been getting.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time Review (PS3)

February 28, 2010

ratchet-and-clank-a-crack-in-time-ps3-coverI’ve been waiting ages to play the new instalment in the Ratchet and Clank franchise ever since I saw the Crack In Time teaser trailer and got the chance to play the demo. I’ve now finally got my wish and ‘Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time‘ was well worth the wait!

The story is the final part of the Ratchet and Clank Future ‘trilogy’. At the end of Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Clank was abducted by the Zoni leaving Ratchet without his faithful friend at his side. Then Insomniac released the PSN Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, which saw Ratchet searching for Clank and his whereabouts but to no avail.

But in Crack in Time, Ratchet and Clank finally find each other again to save the universe. But this isn’t until at the very end as for the majority of the game Ratchet and Clank are doing their own thing. Ratchet is trying to find Clank, whilst Clank finds himself in the great clock which is holding time itself together.

The Crazies Trailer – Put Your Face In It! (Sponsored Post)

February 18, 2010

If you haven’t already heard about it, there’s a new film coming out in the next few weeks called “The Crazies” – you may have already started seeing the trailer (if not then take a look at it below) in which a small Iowa town becomes poisoned and plagued by madness and death with only a group of four people left unaffected. This small group of people obviously need to get away from the town alive and before the military come in to “clean up” the problem.

So it’s your classic American survival horror flick, a re-make of the 1973 movie of the same name, although this new movie includes the original director (George A Romero) as a co-writer, so it will no doubt have some of the same influences as the 70s original. You can see The Crazies in your local cinema from the 26th February 2010.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom Review (Wii)

February 16, 2010

In April 2009 I did a review of Street Fighter 4. I managed to get my hands on Capcom’s latest fighter, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and I can already say its Street fighter 4 but faster, crazier and very Japanese. If you’re familiar with the VS series, you should feel right at home with Tatsunoko vs Capcom. The game was developed by Eighting and was originally realised exclusively in Japan. Due to high demands it was released a year later in the west with extra modes and more recognisable western characters like Frank West from Dead Rising.

If you have never played a VS game before, here is a quick summary. It plays like a regular Street fighter game but everything is put on turbo. The combos reach double digits regularly, the speed is much faster, and it’s all about being as aggressive as you can rather than staying at the other end of the screen firing fireballs at your opponent.

Toy Story 2 3D Review

February 13, 2010

This isn’t really a complete review as I’d normally write here on Zath as I’m sure everyone has already seen Toy Story 2. But as with my ‘review’ on Toy Story 3D, this is just a short post about seeing Toy Story 2 in 3D.

But just in case you haven’t seen it, Woody is kidnapped by a toy collector who wants to sell him and the rest of ‘Woody’s Roundup’ to a Japanese museum. It’s then up to Buzz & co. to find Woody and bring him home. We meet new characters including Barbie’s Mrs Potato Head and Buzz’s arch enemy, Emperor Zurg.

Resident Evil 5 Review (PS3)

January 30, 2010

Thirteen years ago Capcom revolutionised the survival horror series with one of the scariest games ever made called Resident Evil. Resident Evil 5 is the seventh instalment to the survival horror series. The game stars the original character from the first game, Chris Redfield, and a new character, Sheva Alomar. Resident Evil 5 is a reinvention of Resident Evil 4 with extra abilities and a cooperative mode allowing you to play the game with a friend.

The objective of the game is to stop a deal involving biological weapons going down in Africa. The storyline closes out Chris Redfield’s history and explains what has happened to him since the mansion incident in Resident Evil 1. This is specifically designed for people that have been playing the previous Resident Evil’s as the story keeps going back to the past events.

Lego Universe Preview (Lego Online Game)

January 20, 2010

There has been a Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Racer, Lego Soccer Mania and a Lego Rock Band. It seems like the Lego characters are making there way into every game genre. There latest game, Lego Universe is to be released later this year, is a Lego online game, specifically a massively mutiplayer online (MMO) game developed by NetDevil. The game is a highly ambitious title aimed towards kids. I wonder why they just didn’t go ahead and make a Lego World of Warcraft?

The objective of the game is to join together with other players across the world and help the Lego Universe battle a dark force known as the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom has come to rid the world of imagination and it’s the player’s job to stop that from happening.
