iPhone 3G Available On Other UK Networks? (Rumour)
July 14, 2009
There’s apparently more talk, or shall we say rumours that Apple might be in talks with other mobile phone networks that would see O2 lose their exclusivity deal on the iPhone 3G handset. The UK networks in question could well be Orange and T-Mobile, both of which would no doubt be eager to get the now entry-level iPhone 3G handset available to their customers.
I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there who have ended up on the O2 network simply because they wanted an iPhone and had no choice in the matter – I know I certainly have, before I got my iPhone 3G PAYG, I’d been with Orange for nearly 10 years and for the most part I would have been happy enough to remain with them had they been able to offer me the iPhone at the time, especially since the Orange network signal is better in my local area.

A few people have recently asked me about free SIM cards on Pay As You Go (PAYG) for mobile phones, so I thought I should perhaps provide a quick summary of the different options on offer.
Given the current economic climate, everyone is trying to save money wherever they can and I know from experience as when coming towards the end of my current mobile phone contract, I didn’t really want to commit to yet another 18 month contract, especially when I don’t use the included minutes and text messages that I’m paying for now.

In the past I’ve mentioned that you can get a free T-Mobile SIM card on Pay As You Go (PAYG), that way you are no longer tied to being on a contract paying a monthly line rental fee – I‘ve recently gone back onto PAYG myself and certainly for me I’m finding it the cheaper option as we’re all looking for ways to save money these days.
With that in mind, T-Mobile are currently running a special offer whereby you not only get a free T-Mobile SIM card, but you can also receive 1000 free texts as part of the deal – all you need to do is top-up your new SIM card by the 30th April 2009 and the 1000 free texts will then be added to your PAYG SIM card within 28 days.

So as we come to the end of our overview of the smartphone world (which has included the Blackberry Storm, Blackberry Bold, Nokia E71, HTC Touch HD and the iPhone 3G) and we meet the T-Mobile G1 – The first Google Phone! This has got to be the only phone where the operating system (O/S) has created more interest than the phone. Having said that the phone has been the centre of much attention and not all of it is without good reason.
Firstly a little background: the phone is technically called the HTC Dream (you may recognise HTC from their Touch HD) as they, along with some input from Google’s design team, designed the hardware. But what makes this phone special is that it is the first example of Google’s Android O/S which promised to be stylish, packed with features and built completely with touchscreens in mind; so it looked good, but the end result was a phone of two halves.

The Orange E650 is my current smartphone mobile (which is actually an Orange-branded HTC S710) which I’ve had for around 6 months now and am half way through my current contract and thought I’d try and summarise my feelings about it.

Normally when I get a new toy (gadget), I’m really pleased with it and want to play with it, however in this case, there was just something about it that didn’t impress me and was considering sending it back, perhaps because it was so much more chunkier than my previous Orange C500 smartphone.
I persevered with it due to it’s increased features over my old mobile and it’s really grown on me, particularly the slide-out QWERTY keyboard which makes text input so easy, also the PC synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook is really helping to organise me much better as I can sometimes be a procrastinator if I allow things to overwhelm me.

A free T-Mobile SIM card? Could I interest you in one of these? You can now get a free Pay As You Go (PAYG) SIM card from the T-Mobile website, this PAYG SIM card includes free weekend texts when you top up at least £10 on a Friday.
Sounds like a good deal to me, unfortunately the network coverage around me might not be that great, but I’m getting one to test it out before I put lots of top-up onto this free T-Mobile SIM card. However, if the T-Mobile network coverage is good in your area, then this offer is a great bargain!
