Play TV Demo
September 13, 2008
I’ve just downloaded a demo of Play TV for the Playstation 3. The Play TV demo is a digital tuner for use with the PS3 and allows you to watch and record digital programmes onto your HDD, the same as Freeview recorders or Sky+.
The menu is very basic and easy to navigate around and the guide with all the TV listings was very easy to use as it’s no different from the ones I’ve used previously on Freeview and Sky.
The programmes that are the demo are obviously just demo channels that have already been pre-installed for users to get used to how Play TV works. You can record a programme with one push of the select button, which I found very useful also.

Sony has recently announced a price and release date for ‘Play TV’.
Play TV is a digital receiver that enables you to watch Freeview through your PS3 and use it as a recorder as well. So you can watch one program and record another or record two programmes at once. All of your recordings will be saved on the PS3’s hard drive so you’ll be able to watch them back whenever you like.

A new PS3 160GB? If you’ve just bought the brand spanking new PS3 80GB and you’re in a bad mood anyway…..don’t read anymore into this!
Sony have announced that they are to release a 160GB model of the PS3 in October 2008! - Only 2 months after the release of the 80GB model! Also, I very much doubt from what I’ve read that the new 160GB version will have PS2 backwards compatibility or any of the features of the 60GB model.

August 12, 2008
Zath: Portable handheld gaming is something that I’ve never really got into myself despite being a big fan of various types of gaming, back in the early days I never ended getting a Game Boy - there was always some other expensive gaming hardware to buy, usually PC-related that my money went on. Even to this day I’ve still not embraced portable gaming with either the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP, or even with games on mobile phones - perhaps I’m too much of a purist? Anyway, with that in mind, this post is a guest post written by Daniel Johnson who covers a wide variety of gaming commentary on his website; Daniel Primed - if you’ve not already seen it, I’d suggest you taking some time out and read some of his thoughts on gaming - he has a lot of quality content such as How Does it Feel to Play a Video Game?!
The portable gaming space has been continuously growing in size since hitting the mainstream with the Game Boy in 1989 (1990, PAL) and now, in 2008, this market has gained equal footing with the home console market, representing the strongest area in growth in the industry. Despite biding well with a good chunk of the market, portable games still remain an after thought for both developer and media alike.

July 21, 2008
Zath: “The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was one of those annual events that as a gamer I always wanted to attend - it was basically the largest conference of the gaming industry with hundreds of stands at the LA conference centre, if you liked games then this was the place to be. However, last year saw the whole event scaled back and moved to several smaller venues as it was starting to cost the industry exhibitors huge amounts of money which it couldn’t justify.
I can understand why it’s had to happen, but in a way it’s a still a shame that E3 as an event on that scale no longer happens, I kind of liked the idea that the gaming industry could command such an event….well perhaps in actual fact it couldn’t!
So with a smaller E3 venue and the number of visitors having been scaled back, has E3 lost some of it’s shine? Are the big companies still using this event to make their big announcements of what we can expect in the coming year? - It would seem there’s still plenty going on though as the Family Gamer, Paul Govan now explains in his syndicated article below…”

Sony are set to release a new model of the Playstation 3. Instead of the cheap Playstation 3 40GB model now available, there will now be an 80GB model which will sell at the same price of £299.99.
Apparently the memory card slots and PS2 emulation will not be making a return on this new model, which is a shame. But I would have thought that this model will feature the new Dualshock Sixaxis controller that was released only a few weeks ago.

April 28, 2007
The Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) console was expected to have a price drop at some point, everyone’s looking to buy a cheap PS3, but who would have thought you would be seeing the PS3 console dropping in price from the UK launch price of £425 to a cheap bargain starting price for Sony PS3 console bundles at around £300 just 6 months later!
One of the reasons I suspect for this will be the comparatively high cost of the Sony PS3 console since it’s launch in comparison to it’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii console rivals which are both outselling it. The reported sales of the PS3 console in the UK and how they fell since the launch week was something that was discussed here on the Zath Forums - I think it was because the launch price was anything but cheap!
