Sony Ericsson Experia X10 Mini, X10 Pro and Vivaz Pro Announced

February 16, 2010

This year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) has certainly thrown up some interesting stuff. Not a lot more so though, than the three latest instalments from the guys over at Sony Ericsson. The X10 Mini and Pro edtions as well as the Vivaz Pro.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/Pro

The Xperia X10 from Sony Ericsson got a lot of people talking, so these compact editions are sure to do the same. They promise to deliver powerful devices, packed with apps which offer a great alternative for those who don’t wish to be lugging what used to be known as ‘bricks’ around with them.

Sony Ericsson Aspen Launched – A Green Windows Mobile!

February 6, 2010

Sony Ericsson really seem to be releasing a lot of new handsets just recently, for instance the SE Satio, SE Vivaz and now with the Sony Ericsson Aspen.

Whilst the green revolution continues to trickle its way through the tech world it has been a while since we’ve covered a product that aims to be at the top of the field in functionality and style, but still remain environmentally sound at its core so it’s a nice change to see the release of the Sony Ericsson Aspen, which aims to do just that!

Ignoring the green aspects for a moment and you’ll see that the Aspen is a QWERTY smartphone which also incorporates the ease of a touchscreen and which comes with all the functionality you’d expect from a ‘high end’ phone including the latest version of Windows Mobile.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz Mobile Phone Announced

January 26, 2010

Following the recent release on the Sony Ericsson Satio which we had the pleasure of testing here at Zath, they have announced the second instalment of their new family of ‘communication entertainment’ phones which promises to not only match, but exceed the standard set by its predecessor: the Sony Ericsson Vivaz.

Even if you didn’t know beforehand that the two mobile phones were ‘related’ just looking at the two next to each other kind of gives it away as the Vivaz looks remarkably like a slimmed down, brighter version of the comparatively blocky Satio.

This isn’t all that surprising as ‘looks’ seem to be one of the main two selling points of the Vivaz, and despite the fact that really it looks nothing like the shape of ‘the human body’ (which is what the publicity excitedly claims) the new design philosophy of ‘delivering beauty inside and out’ has succeeded as it really does look quite nice!

Sony Ericsson Satio Review

January 18, 2010

In the latter end of 2009 Sony Ericsson released the latest ‘flagship’ phone which was shown to the world with much gusto and promise, helped by a fairly universal advertising campaign (the one with the brightly coloured space hoppers) and it certainly looked like it could be very successful not only over the Christmas spending spree, but into the new year as well.

So over the seasonally-cold holidays I’ve had the pleasure (or not as the case may be) of putting the new Sony Ericsson Satio through its paces and seeing whether the real thing matches up to the promised article and whether there’s a world beating phone there – not just a pretty face and a world beating camera.

Too Many Mobile Phones To Choose From?

December 12, 2009

handful-of-mobile-phonesJust recently, after getting fed up of my current contract and lack of network coverage, I decided to change. I spent hours upon hours searching through the many phones on sale these days. I remember last time I upgraded it was an easy process, there weren’t that many top phones around other than specialist handsets such as the Blackberry. But now it seems, it’s a totally different experience altogether.

First you must decide what you need from a mobile phone. Some opt for simplicity; the old fashioned handset which offers not a lot more than phone calls, SMS and a large keypad. These are perfect for business users or those who do not require some of the other complexities built into the top of the range models these days. Or are you the photographer among us? Until suffering some firmware issues the Sony Ericsson Satio was the perfect option featuring a 12.1 megapixel camera and there are some others around which boast similar spec. Perhaps web browsing is your thing, or are you an Android fan?

Sony Ericsson Aino – A PS3 Compatible Mobile Phone

October 20, 2009

sony-ericsson-aino-ps3-compatible-mobile-phoneSony Ericsson has just released their first mobile phone that is compatible with Sony’s PS3 and it’s called the Aino.

The phone will connect to the PS3 via Remote Play which will enable users to access and control all the media content they’ve stored up on their PS3’s whilst on the move. This will be done through the Internet or a local network.

The phone will duplicate the buttons of a PS3 controller on its 3 inch TFT touch screen which will let you turn your PS3 on and off, flick through your XMB (Cross Media Bar), jump onto the internet, and access any DRM media which you’ve got saved on the hard drive.

Sony PSP2 Rumours?

January 28, 2009

sony-psp-2-rumour-conceptRumours have been around since time began, and they have always offered an insight into what may be to come in the future, or what people want to see in the future. Either way they often do have at least a little truth in them, so when the new, latest stories regarding the possibility of the Sony PSP2 started to make the rounds it sparked great amounts of interest.

First let us look at the Sony PSP which has been in the news recently after the spat between Sony and Sony Ericsson over the brand name, and unsurprisingly it relates to technical specifications for the next PSP. It all started when IGN said that they had ‘credible sources’ that claimed the next PSP (for convenience sake coined the PSP 2) would come with a touchscreen similar to that seen in the iPhone.

Ericsson Slashes Workforce

January 22, 2009

ericsson-logoEvery day we hear depressing news of more companies laying off more staff in an attempt to cut expenditure and stay in the black, and no market seems to be excluded. Now it is the turns of the wireless world as LM Ericsson have announced that they have had to cut a massive 5,000 jobs.

This is a result of a large net profit fall from 5.6 billion kronor (around £480 million) to 3.9 billion (£335 million) which is not only due to the obvious affect of the credit crunch, but also because of “a dramatic drop in contribution” from Sony Ericsson the mobile handset manufacturers.

PSP Causes Sony–Sony Ericsson Split?

January 20, 2009

sony-psp-game-playingThere have been rumours about a PSP phone for a long time now, and this and a portable Xbox 360 must make up the majority of the hoaxes that the market sees. However people have been fairly sure that Sony were going to release something to do with the PSP and a mobile at some point in the future, but I hate to disappoint you by saying that we are still no nearer to knowing anything useful about it.

However a nice little piece of information has sprung to the attention of rumour followers like me, and this concerns ‘goings on’ between Sony and its’ half brother Sony Ericsson. Since they began in 2001 Sony Ericsson have been constantly licensing brand names from Sony – such as Bravia and CyberShot – but it would appear that the two sides have had a little disagreement over the PSP.
