Sky 3DTV Football Coverage In Pubs

February 2, 2010

For many football fans this weekend just gone will be a memorable one. Not just because of the traditionally fierce clash between Arsenal and Manchester United, but because of the fact that for the first time ever, in pubs up and down the country, the game was aired in Sky 3DTV.

Much has been made of the 3D scene in the past few months and this is surely a massive step forward in terms of sport. Some may argue that whilst impressive, it’s more for glamour than anything else, but then again that seems to be the way football is these days anyway. Whether or not it is necessary doesn’t deny the fact that an impressive display of 3D football got many fans excited for the future of football on TV.

Sky Songs – Online Music Streaming and Download Service

December 5, 2009

sky-logoAccording to a journalist for the Telegraph, Sky Songs has the potential to rival iTunes as an online music provider. The concept is not a new thing; downloading and streaming music is widely available online including the increasingly popular Spotify. But coming from a trusted source such as Sky, who provide television, telephone and internet for many households already, gives this service a head start over other options.

The principle is simple. You visit the Sky Songs website, sign up and you have access to 4 million songs. You can choose whether or not to download albums, singles or even mix and match songs creating a ‘music pack’. Most albums or music packs are available for £6.49, rivalling the prices of the likes of Amazon MP3 Download Store and iTunes for top titles.

3DTV Without Glasses, Coming Soon?

August 21, 2009

3dtv-helicopter-out-of-screenI went out for a meal at Xscape in Castleford last night, and thought I’d have a stroll around to let my food settle. I reached the back of the complex and noticed something odd about some of the TV’s that were playing videos……………they were projecting 3D images and I didn’t even have glasses on!!!

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I didn’t think this technology was available just yet, I knew that Sky 3DTV is coming in 2010, but you needed glasses for that. Of course you’d need a 3DTV, but why do we need glasses anymore if this technology is available?

Zath’s Technology and Gadget Roundup (16/08/09)

August 16, 2009

Here at Zath we like all things hi-tech, gadget and gaming-related, however unfortunately we can’t feature everything we like, thankfully there are other technology, gadget and gaming websites out there to keep up to date with the other important developments that are going on.

That being the case I thought it might be useful and interesting to everyone to highlight some of our favourite articles that might be useful and interesting to our Zath readers, but first let’s start with highlighting a few of our favourites on Zath in the past week in case you missed them!

Sky 3DTV Launching In 2010

August 12, 2009

sky-logoSky are set to launch the UK’s first 3DTV Channel by 2010.

This doesn’t surprise me as 3D films are becoming quite a major thing in cinemas nowadays and most of the blockbusters have some 3D scenes in them, whether they be the full film in 3D, or just certain parts of the film which you can watch at the IMAX.

Sky News iPhone App Review

June 3, 2009

sky-news-logoYou can now get a free Sky News iPhone app from the Apple iTunes App Store, so it would appear that Sky are really starting to embrace the iPhone and its userbase now after it recently launched the Sky+ iPhone app that allows subscribers to set their Sky+ or Sky HD boxes to record shows no matter where they might be (a very handy little tool, I suggest you check it out if you haven’t already got it on your iPhone).

So what does the Sky News iPhone app allow you to do? Well perhaps predictably it brings you the top news stories from the Sky News TV channel (and website) to your iPhone in an easy to navigate application that’s presented very well in my opinion.

‘Gigapan’ Panoramic Photo System Used By Sky In Latest Promotion

April 14, 2009

gigapan-panoramic-photo-sky-moviesWhat with the recent flurry of interest in the photography of our towns and cities since Google Streetview went live in the UK, now is perhaps an appropriate time for Sky to be using this kind of thing in its latest promotional campaign for their Sky Movies April action season.

Sky are using a system known as “Gigapan Photographic Technology” (the same system that was used to cover President Obama’s inauguration) in their latest promotion which consists of three distinct developments to create a very high resolution panoramic view of London’s South Bank incorporating a few famous action movie heroes out and about:

Sky+ iPhone App Review

April 7, 2009

sky-logoSky’s announced that you can now download their free Sky+ iPhone app from the Apple App Store which will give you control to “Remote Record” on your Sky+ or Sky HD box wherever you maybe be at the time.

The Sky+ iPhone App allows you to view the next 7 days worth of the Sky TV channel guide by day/time of either all the channels or by selecting a certain sub-group type (much like you would using your Sky Remote) such as Entertainment/Sports/Movies/Documentaries. You’re then presented with a TV guide much like the current one on your TV all be it, much more squashed horizontally – unfortunately you can’t rotate your iPhone to change the viewing aspect, I’m hoping that feature will be included as the Sky+ iPhone App is developed.

Live Football Scores

October 29, 2008

sky-sports-live-football-scoresI was recently asked about live football scores and what’s the best way of keeping track of them now that the new football season is well under way. There are various websites that will track the live football scores for you, but they vary widely in terms of usability and having slight delays in terms of updating.

The best way that I’ve found so far is to use the Live Score Centre on the Sky Sports website. It’s a service which has been developed over the past few years, each year introducing improvements and making it better to use.

Play TV Demo (PS3)

September 13, 2008

play-tv-logoI’ve just downloaded a demo of Play TV for the Playstation 3. The Play TV demo is a digital tuner for use with the PS3 and allows you to watch and record digital programmes onto your HDD, the same as Freeview recorders or Sky+.

The menu is very basic and easy to navigate around and the guide with all the TV listings was very easy to use as it’s no different from the ones I’ve used previously on Freeview and Sky.

The programmes that are the demo are obviously just demo channels that have already been pre-installed for users to get used to how Play TV works. You can record a programme with one push of the select button, which I found very useful also.
