Cars To Become Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots? Audi A8 Features 3G Internet Access

February 15, 2010

Just the other day I was pondering whether there would be any benefit to including 3G mobile broadband connectivity into cars. Then today I log onto the Internet and do the usual rounds, before I stumble across an interesting article telling me that Audi have joined up with Qualcomm and done this very thing. The navigation system in the new Audi A8’s will now include 3G capability in which a driver just shoves in a connected sim card and it opens him up to a whole host of features previously unheard of in motor cars.

Ok so you’re not going to sit browsing the net whilst in the driver seat, that would be more dangerous than using your phone, but the features are somewhat impressive. For example, when you pass a landmark or spot an interesting building, or a historical venue, the navigation system will give the driver the simple option of pulling information from sources such as Wikipedia regarding that spot. Great eh?

Nokia Booklet 3G Review (Mobile Internet Netbook)

January 3, 2010

You may have seen my article not so long ago regarding the latest best netbooks (Winter 2009/2010) available on the market. Within that list I included the new Nokia Booklet 3G; a netbook aimed at the higher, more luxurious end of the market. Now it has been released and consumers have had their chance to get their mitts on one, does it justify its somewhat extortionate price tag? Or is it just over priced and overrated?

The netbook retails for anything between about £600 and £800 which does seem ludicrously expensive when compared to other netbooks on the market today, of which there are an ever increasing amount.

Dell Mini Inspiron 10 Netbook (Atom N450) Announced

December 31, 2009

In the crowded world of netbooks, Dell have always been a major contender, with their Mini series and we’ve written two reviews here on Zath for the Dell Mini 9 netbook.

With a new year, comes a new netbook from Dell. The new Dell Mini Inspiron 10 netbook will be released early this month and Dell are offering a variety of options as always.

In terms of performance, it is the same as always, 1.6Ghz N450 Atom processor, 1Gb DDR2 RAM and the option of either 160Gb or 250Gb hard drives. Not much improvement since the last model there, however they also give you the choice between 3 and 6 cell batteries with the latter providing up to 9.5 hours of battery life. This puts it right up there with its greatest competitors in terms of endurance.

Dell Mini 9 Netbook Review

July 29, 2009

dell-mini-9-netbookYou may have read The Average Windows Nerd’s recent review of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook, however I thought I’d write-up a quick review of my opinion of this while I could and to outline what I’m planning on doing with it!

Of the netbooks that I’ve had the chance to look at and use in the past, I would say the first thing that strikes you is the build quality of Dell’s offering – it’s certainly a sturdy piece of hardware which has been designed quite well…at least externally, when it features a rounded corners and a cool looking shiny finish – although as with anything like this, it’s an absolute fingerprint magnet.

Free SIM Cards

March 22, 2009

sim-cardsA few people have recently asked me about free SIM cards on Pay As You Go (PAYG) for mobile phones, so I thought I should perhaps provide a quick summary of the different options on offer.

Given the current economic climate, everyone is trying to save money wherever they can and I know from experience as when coming towards the end of my current mobile phone contract, I didn’t really want to commit to yet another 18 month contract, especially when I don’t use the included minutes and text messages that I’m paying for now.

Free T-Mobile SIM Card With 1000 Free Texts

March 2, 2009

In the past I’ve mentioned that you can get a free T-Mobile SIM card on Pay As You Go (PAYG), that way you are no longer tied to being on a contract paying a monthly line rental fee – I‘ve recently gone back onto PAYG myself and certainly for me I’m finding it the cheaper option as we’re all looking for ways to save money these days.

With that in mind, T-Mobile are currently running a special offer whereby you not only get a free T-Mobile SIM card, but you can also receive 1000 free texts as part of the deal – all you need to do is top-up your new SIM card by the 30th April 2009 and the 1000 free texts will then be added to your PAYG SIM card within 28 days.

Amazon Kindle 2 Release In UK & Europe?

February 25, 2009

amazon-kindle-2A few weeks ago we brought you news of the Amazon Kindle 2 release, the new electronic book reader from Amazon which was the successor to the very successful Kindle. However this didn’t mean an awful lot to us UK dwellers because despite the Kindle’s success we haven’t even seen a glimpse of it this side of the Atlantic.

Due to several reasons the Kindle has not come to UK, Europe or anywhere else outside of USA, and the Amazon Kindle 2 looked set to continue this trend. However when iFixit got hold of it they tore it apart (or rather they disassembled it) and had a look at what was inside: and to their surprise there was what looked like a space for a SIM card.

Free 3 Sim Card

July 11, 2008

3-mobile-logoMy attention now turns to a free 3 sim card in what seems like a never-ending quest to find the best Pay As You Go (PAYG) bargain deal on the various mobile phone networks.

In the past I have never seriously considered the 3 mobile network because I was always under the false impression that you needed to be situated in a city to actually get any signal on the 3 network.

However, I was recently speaking to a friend of mine who has a mobile phone on 3 and he has recommended that I should definitely take a look at getting a free 3 sim card if at all possible, since their network coverage is usually much better than some other networks, specifically in our area the T-Mobile and Vodafone networks are a bit hit and miss – to the point there is no signal at all sometimes.

Free Tesco Mobile Sim Card

May 19, 2008

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who had got a free Tesco SIM card for her mobile phone, she has recently got sick of paying out each month and being bound to a contract with one of the main large mobile networks which just did not give her value for money.

Tesco (the UK Supermarket) has been selling Pay As You Go mobile phones for a number of years now, they began by selling PAYG handsets of the major networks, but in recent times they have been mobile phone handsets on their own branded Tesco Mobile network – which actually uses the O2 network much like Virgin Mobile uses T-Mobile.

Free Virgin SIM Card

April 21, 2008

virgin-media-logoWhen I saw that you could get a free Virgin SIM card for your existing mobile phone, I thought I’d may as well get one and see what Virgin Mobile is like as a ‘Pay As You Go’ (PAYG) mobile phone network, especially since my current Orange contract expires this week!

When you receive your free Virgin SIM card you will then be able to take advantage of the following PAYG tariff:

  • Pick up more minutes and texts than you would with a contract
  • Keep your phone and number
  • No long-term contract – you aren’t tied-in to a lengthy contract
  • Plus some neat extras like free web access to social network websites (or all websites if you top-up with £20)
