New Samsung Digital Camaras Announced (CES 2010)

January 7, 2010

As the day goes on at CES, more press conferences continue to take place! In Samsung’s CES 2010 press release earlier today, we saw a new line of cameras and camcorders, and of course, some love for 3D!

Samsung TL-Series Digital Cameras

The first thing on show was a few new additions to Samsung’s digital camera line-up, starting with two new point and shoot models: the TL210 and TL205. Both of these models contain a front facing LCD display measuring 1.5”, giving your subject enough time to get their pose just right! Specifications for both cameras are pretty similar: the TL210 comes with a 12.4MP sensor, and the TL205 with a 12.2MP sensor. The lenses on the two models also differ – if you opt for the TL210, you’ll become familiar with a 27mm wide angle lens that offers 5x optical zoom. The TL205 on the other hand comes packed with a 35mm lens and just 3x optical zoom.

Samsung LED TV Range

April 28, 2009

samsung-led-tv-series-6-7-1We’ve covered many high definition, widescreen TVs here on Zath, of both LCD and Plasma varieties, but Samsung have now responded to their competitors by announcing their new range of Samsung LED TVs (Series 6 & 7) – yes you read it right, Light Emitting Diode (LED), you’re probably thinking that’s different, not heard of that one before…

The thing to realise here is that these LED TVs are still using a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) like you may have at home now; however the main difference is that LEDs are used as a backlight for the LCD display, as opposed to the usual LCD TVs that use fluorescent lamps as backlighting system which ultimately add to the depth/thickness and power consumption of the TV.

Asus Eee PC 1000HE Announced

February 10, 2009

asus-eee-pc-1000heEvery so often we see a new version of the Asus Eee PC appear (all being members of the 700, 900 or 1000 series, in this case the latter) and more often than not they do not make much of an impact on the netbook world. So when Asus announced the 1000HE a couple of days ago many questions were asked as to whether it would be any improvement on what has already been done – is it more than just an extra vowel?

From what we found out at the CES in Las Vegas we know that it will have a brand new keyboard and an improved battery all of which hope to improve in areas where the Eee PC has not previously performed as well as it could have.

Acer 10″ Netbook Announced

January 27, 2009

acer-netbook-10I am a big fan of netbooks: I love the way they combine portability with a machine that you can actually do things on without being bulky or fiddly (almost a compromise between a smartphone and a laptop). However during the last 6 months I have grown increasingly frustrated with the amount of netbooks being released by big names that have been so generic it is untrue.

But if you are going to look at netbooks you will see there are a few that immediately stand out: the Acer Aspire One, the Samsung NC10 and Asus’ N10 and numerous Eee PCs. They all occupy well defined rungs in the price ladder (roughly £200, £300, £450 [and everything in between for the Eee PCs] although obviously different models result in a large range). But Acer, who have so far been flushed with success, are hoping to displace the NC10 from this list.

Archos 10 Netbook Launched

January 16, 2009

archos-10-netbookOne of the main trends of 2008 that we can expect to see continue well into this year and beyond is that of the netbook – a small, cheap, low spec ‘mini’ laptop designed to enable access to the internet and allow you to do basic tasks on the move. Since Asus started it all of in 2007 with the Eee PC 701, there has been escalating interest and awareness which has swept many big companies along with it.

Some of the biggest names in the computer industry have invested in this – obviously Asus with their Eee PC, but Dell, Hp, Acer, Samsung and MSI have also jumped on this bandwagon (as you can see from our recent Acer Aspire One review) with many expected to follow. But where is the industry now? Well the recent CES has been a good place to see the netbooks that are going to be released soon, so let’s have a look at them.

First up there is the Archos 10 which is Archos’ first venture into this market, and it does so at the bigger end, with a 10 inch screen. It is a fairly simple design; there is nothing special about it although the smooth design is nice and they haven’t over complicated the ports locations either. It is nice to see a proper trackpad, but the keyboard does not use the whole width, so despite what Archos say it could well be difficult to type.

Samsung ‘Giorgio Armani’ Mobile Phone

January 14, 2009

girogio-armani-samsung-phone-frontAs soon as I saw the Samsung Giorgio Armani mobile phone I immediately thought that it looks like a stylish gadget – elegant and appealing. Although the fashion status of the Giorgio Armani brand may draw you in, the best part of the phone is the features which you get on the phone.

All you have to do is to look at this phone and you will realise it’s for you. The outer casing of the phone looks fantastic and is great to hold. The casing itself is made from aluminium and stainless steel which gives it that sharp, sparkling finish.

Samsung LE32R74BDX LCD TV Review

March 10, 2007

The 32″ Samsung LE32R74BDX Widescreen HD Ready with built-in Freeview tuner was a recent purchase of mine – my first High Definition LCD TV. As you may have guessed from the various Xbox 360 and High Definition TV subjects I’ve been posting (anyone with a new toy likes to talk about it!)

Samsung LE32R74BDX

I read quite a lot of review sites and forums before finally choosing this brilliant Samsung LE32R74BDX High Definition LCD TV. I was mainly concerned that with it being LCD, there could be issues with ghosting on fast moving images (which I’ve had problems with in the past on computer monitors) and a possibility of “dead pixels“, thankfully Microsoft seems to have a made a good choice in using Samsung LCDs on their demo stands since this neither of these things were a problem at all, either for gaming on the Xbox 360, TV or DVDs.
