A New Nintendo Handheld Gaming System In Development?

October 19, 2009

nintendo-logoThis is never going to end is it?

I can’t remember the last time that we’ve had to wait more than 18 months before Nintendo or Sony have announced a newer version of either the DS/DSi or PSP handheld gaming systems. Well it’s Nintendo’s turn………….again.

I love my DS and don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it as I have some really great games for it and there’s still more to come out, or others I haven’t got round to buying yet.

Sony PSP Mini Games Announced

August 25, 2009

sony-pspRecently at GamesCom, Sony announced the new PS3 Slim along with a new feature for the PSP called ‘Minis’ – mini games!

Minis are going to be similar to what you already see on the Playstation Network and WiiWare. Smaller companies are going to develop their own games for people to download to play on the PSP. Each of the games will be limited to a file size of only 100MB which is tiny (or mini) compared to how much PSOne games take up on your memory stick for your PSP.

Jak and Daxter 5 Rumour? (PS3)

August 20, 2009

jak-and-daxter-characters-poseThis is only talk at the minute, but I couldn’t contain my excitement at the prospect of this! So I’m spreading the wealth with my fellow Jak and Daxter fans.

As most of you know GamesCom is currently on in Germany with a lot of announcements, like the new Sony PS3 Slim. But nothing is more exciting than the fact that Arne Meyer (the community manager at Naughty Dog) said they are keen to do a PS3 instalment of Jak and Daxter!! He was quoted as saying:

iPhone 3.0: The Dark Side – Part 2

August 18, 2009

bad-apple-skull“Bring On The Pain!”

Ages ago now (sorry), realising that I couldn’t really say what I had intended to say about Apple without actually going through the “fail” process for myself after writing iPhone 3.0: The Dark Side – Part 1, I decided to sacrifice my un-activated 1.0 iPhone in the name of science, and upgraded the firmware to iPhone 3.0. Here’s how it went…

I connected the iPhone to my PC, then waited the 45 minutes or so it takes for Apple’s flagship product to load in Windows. It duly reported that a firmware update was available, so I chose to install and waited. After downloading and installing, the iPhone re-booted and reported that it was waiting to be activated. “That’s all folks!” I thought, but after 2 minutes of sitting doing nothing, my iPhone gave up trying to activate and just turned on and worked.

‘Mercury’ Review (PSP)

July 28, 2009

mercury-psp-coverYou may remember this game from a few years ago when the PSP was first released back in 2005. Well it’s now available for your enjoyment via the Playstation Network for the bargain price of £4.79, and with only a file size of 258MB.

You can only play this on your PSP, so don’t try to buy it expecting to play it on your PS3 – I found it much better to download via my PS3, install it and then just copy it straight over to my PSP.

It never interested me when the first game came out, but I wanted something different to play and thought it could be fun. I was right, this is my kind of puzzle game, and I can spend a good hour or two going through the puzzles at a time.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Review (PSP)

July 24, 2009

monster-hunter-freedom-unite-psp-coverI’ve never played the Monster Hunter games before, as they’ve never really appealed to me when I’ve read about what you have to do in the games. But after playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I’ve got hooked on it.

When I was explaining the game to a fellow computer nerd, they said it sounded like a grown ups version of Pokemon. I’ve never played Pokemon so I’ll take her word for it.

The aim of the game is to train yourself up to become a Monster Hunter and to go out on quests killing or capturing monsters to earn yourself money and a reputation for the best Monster Hunter around.

‘Monster Hunter Freedom Unite’ Competition

July 10, 2009

monster-hunter-freedom-ignite-logoWe’ve recently featured a preview of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in which we explained the basic premise and what the game entailed, this is certainly looking like a pretty impressive Sony PSP game both in terms of graphics and gameplay – these Monster Hunter games are huge in Japan and Capcom have now brought them to our shores for us to experience them for ourselves.

As part of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Freedom Unite release in the UK also involves the opening of the Monster Hunter Gathering Halls in Central London, a social gaming centre where Monster Hunters from all over can gather together to receive tutorials/training, content and questing events, all free of charge to anyone who has a Sony PSP and a copy of the game.

‘The Gathering Hall’ – Monster Hunter Gaming Centre Opened

July 7, 2009

monster-hunter-freedom-ignite-logoTo co-incide with the release of the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite game on the Sony PSP, Capcom have on the 3rd July 2009 opened the The Gathering Hall which is a dedicated gaming centre located in Central London – not far from Tottenham Court Road tube station in fact!

You might be wondering why they’ve done this, Capcom are trying to replicate their social gaming success that they’ve enjoyed with Monster Hunter in Japan where these games have over 3 million players and out-sold both Pokemon and Wii Fit last year – now you certainly don’t hear that kind of statistic very often!

Assassin’s Creed 2 Preview

June 3, 2009

assassins-creed-2-coverWhen Assassins was released in late 2007 it set the gaming world alight receiving much critical acclaim and with the story left in many way incomplete it made sense to make a sequel so, two years and numerous awards later Ubisoft are back with Assassins Creed 2.

The fact that there was going to be a sequel is nothing new (we have known that since last November) and it was officially announced with a teaser trailer and a bit of information in April but at E3 2009 we’ve finally got a good look at what it will be like with a 4 minute trailer and 6 minute demo – and it’s mouth watering!

So, what’s new? Well firstly we are in a completely different age – whilst the first had Desmond going back into the time of the crusades the sequel will see him delve back into Renaissance Italy covering the city of Venice.
