SteelSeries Siberia V2 Gaming Headset Released

December 10, 2009

steelseries-siberia-v2-gaming-headset-2Last week saw the second of the two recent releases from SteelSeries – the Siberia V2 headset, which as the name suggests is the successor to the original Siberia headset which was a success in it self – not just in the gaming world but also within the music industry which is a credit to the quality of the original.

Hoping to build on that success the Siberia V2 boasts a range of improved features and new additions that not only make it great for gaming, but also makes it better for use with MP3 players and iPods etc, and of course when combined with the SteelSeries mobile phone adapter, including the likes of the iPhone!

So without further ado let’s have a look at it. The full headset has a nice form, not looking too cumbersome but also substantial enough that it won’t snap in your hands, and comes in a glossy white, it’s hardly unattractive (if a little cliché) in the “Apple-age”.

ZOWIE G-TF Gaming Mouse Mat Review

October 5, 2009

zowi-g-tf-gaming-mouse-matIn my experience the mousemat is quite possibly the most overlooked gaming ‘accessory’ and you will find that gaming mice (such as the Gigabyte GM-M6880) or gaming headsets (like the ZOWIE Hammer) seem to get a lot more attention.

The reasons for that we’ll look at later, but firstly I’d like to introduce the ZOWIE GTF gaming mouse mat, from the same company that brought you the Hammer gaming headset and who made their name making mousemats such as the one that we’re looking at today.

But before we have a look at the actual it’s probably worth having a quick look at what makes a gaming mouse mat any different to any other and also why you would want to get one at all – the reason being that after a little ‘research’ (i.e. asking people I know) they have absolutely no idea what is special about them and I thought it was worth clearing the subject up!

Gigabyte GM-M6880 Computer Gaming Mouse Review

October 1, 2009

gigabyte-gm-m6880-computer-gaming-mouseEarlier this week we had a look at the Zowie Hammer Gaming Headset which it’s fair to say is nearer the top of the price range than the bottom, but now we’ve got some more gaming gear and this focuses more on those with a more restrictive budget… like myself!

Having used my previous generic optical mouse to death (due to a combination of the mouse stopping working occasionally and the feet being worn off) I decided it was probably time to get a new one, and seeing as I am pretty tight with my money in these recession filled days it seemed sensible to look more at the budget offerings of computer gaming mice …

ZOWIE Hammer Gaming Headset Review

September 30, 2009

zowie-hammer-gaming-headset-boxAs a casual and amateur gamer I’m at least vaguely aware of the differences that different pieces of kit make – and gaming headsets are no exception as even the slightest edge can be (and I quote) ‘the difference between life and death’.

The Hammer headset from ZOWIE sits itself nicely at the top of the quality pile and practically oozes credentials including testing from pro gamer SpawN (no, I haven’t heard of him either!) and the fact that it has been specifically designed for e-sports, so when I was asked if I would like to have a look at it I jumped at the opportunity!

SteelSeries Siberia V2 Gaming Headset Preview

September 26, 2009

steelseries-siberia-v2SteelSeries recently announced that they will soon be releasing their first closed-type headset which will be the upgrade to one of their existing headset range, namely the SteelSeries Siberia V2 gaming headset. The original SteelSeries Siberia headset was a hit with gamers around the world and also achieved some notoriety in the music industry when used by musicians in several high profile music videos.

For this reason alone, I thought that their follow-up headset would be worth looking at, as well as being their first closed-type headset that SteelSeries have released, the Siberia V2 has some other notable features such as great sound quality, integrated control capabilities, an enhanced more comfortable design and better passive noise reduction technology.

New SteelSeries Gaming Mice and Surfaces Preview

August 2, 2009

steelseries-logo-2Since it’s inception in 2001 SteelSeries has been heavily involved in the gaming world – not only as a manufacturer of gaming gear (headsets, mice, keyboards etc etc) of which they are, in their words, market leaders, but also as a sponsor within the professional gaming world.

So given their credentials within gaming circles we thought that it was definitely worth having a look at the new products they have released this week: two mice (or mouses, pointing devices or whatever the accepted plural is) in the form of the SteelSeries Xai Laser and Kinzu Optical, and two gaming surfaces (yes, gaming surfaces, not mouse mats!).

Xtensor Gamer Hand Exerciser

March 24, 2009

xtensor-gaming-hand-exerciserWith the notable exception of the Wii, it is very rare that we associate gaming which physical exertion, and although you may be sweaty after playing, it probably doesn’t have anything to do with you actually moving. So you’d have thought that something designed to help fine tune your body for gaming would be a none starter; but you’d be wrong.

The Xtensor Gamer Hand Exerciser does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: it exercises your hand so you can be better at gaming. It is essentially an elaborated glove with lots of springs attached meaning that in order to open your hand you need to pull your fingers on the springs.

It claims to be the only product on the market to perform with true biomechanical correctness, which allows you to stretch and build the muscles in your fingers, hands wrist and even elbow that have not previously been addressed by other products.

Gamerbase – London Gaming Centre

May 30, 2008

Gamerbase LogoGamerbase is a gaming centre located in the HMV store at the London Trocadero at Piccadilly Circus – they have taken the idea of renting out computers for people to use (much like internet cafés do), but in this case they provide top-of-the-line gaming hardware for people who want to have a great multiplayer gaming experience. I recently had to opportunity to visit Gamerbase while attending a media event for Dell XPS gaming systems and saw first-hand how impressive the hardware and facilities were.

XLeague.tv – A UK Televised Gaming League?

March 19, 2007

I came across this website today which sounds pretty interesting as a gaming concept, which I’ve only heard about in the Far East until now – “Televised E-Sports”.

XLeague.tv is UK-based and will launch online next month (April 2007) for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PCs offering an organised online league for next-gen gaming, which will not only offer prizes, but progression to televised tournament games which will be shown on the XLeague TV channel, that is due to launch on Sky in May 2007.
