Switchball Review (PSN)

March 16, 2010

switchball-psn-screenshot-smallSwitchball is puzzle game very similar to Mercury on the PSP. In each level you have to guide a ball from one end of the level to the other without dropping of the edge into the void below.

There are 5 worlds in the game with each one having 6 levels to guide through and of course, the further you get, the harder it is to reach your goal.

There are two games types in Switchball, Free Play and Timed Play. But I don’t see the point in having these as there’s literally no difference whatsoever. In Free Play, you’re not timed on how long it takes you to complete the level, so you can just saunter through them if you so wish.

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition On Its Way? (Rumour)

March 8, 2010

monkey-island-2-lechucks-revenge-coverWe could be about to see an announcement from Lucasarts on the re-release of Monkey Island 2. Following on from the success that Lucasarts had from re-releasing the first Monkey Island: Special Edition, why would they not do it for the second? Which was arguably a better game?

Of course if they did re-release the second of Guybrush Threepwood’s adventures, I sure it would get a graphical overhaul as well as audio for the characters in the game.

I’m a big fan of Monkey Island of have them all set on my shelf including the latest Tales of Monkey Island, so to get to play Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge with better visuals sounds like fun to me.

Revenge of the Wounded Dragons Review (PSN)

March 7, 2010

revenge-of-the-wounded-dragons-ps3-logoWhen I first saw this I was thinking it looked like a classic side scrolling beat ‘em up, a lot like Street of Rage/Double Dragon and that maybe it could be a real gem from the Playstation Network (PSN), well once the PSN login error has been fixed. But unfortunately I was left quite disappointed by Wounded Dragons.

The aim of the game is to save what appears to be your sister from some mob bosses as they stormed the shop, killed your father and took off with your sister. All in all, not very nice guys. So it’s up to the brothers to fight their way to the top bosses and get back their sister and revenge for the death of their father.

It’s only a short game and should only take you a few hours to complete as there are 4 chapters to the game, each with 6 areas to fight your way through before the big boss.

Playstation Network (PSN) Log-In Error Fixed (PS3)

March 2, 2010

sony-playstation-network-psn-logoIT’S ALIVE!!

Sony have managed to fix the problem that had plagued so many of the older style “fat” PS3s and stopped them from logging into Playstation Network. In the end it doesn’t seem like it was a massive problem, just inconvenient as some PS3 users were only offline for around 24 hours.

Apparently what had happened is the internal clock was recognised 2010 as a leap year which is why is what resetting the date to 31/12/1999.

After finding out it had been fixed I was eager to find out if everything would come back such as my trophies and the like. So this morning I powered up my PS3 and reset my time and date via the internet in the Date and Time Settings, which it obviously wouldn’t do yesterday, and then checked to see if my Ratchet and Clank trophies were there…………..they weren’t!!!

Playstation Network (PSN) Global Log-In Error For PS3

March 1, 2010

sony-playstation-network-psn-logoMany of you might have woken up today with an error which is stopping you from logging into the Playstation Network. I’m among those people and it happened to me in the early hours of this morning and was left rather annoyed.

I thought it was just my PS3 that was playing up as I’m still able to jump onto the Internet using my console, but not PSN. But the most annoying this is, I was just about to complete Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time on the challenge mode which would have given me my final trophy and unlocked my first ever platinum trophy, but I was stolen of the pleasure. Not only that, it seems to have wiped all the trophies I required for A Crack in Time so I’m probably going to have to go through it all again to get the trophies.

Sony PSP Mini Games To Be Playable On Playstation 3

December 9, 2009

sony-psp-ps3-minis-logoSony has announced that the Sony PSP Mini games will be making their way over to the PS3 before Christmas. A new firmware update will be released on 17th December which will have a Minis emulator which will allow people to download the games directly onto their PS3 and still be able to transfer them over to your PSP if you so wish.

For those that aren’t aware of what the PSP Minis are, they were released along with the PSPgo to rival the massive success of the games on the iPhone. But do be aware that it will be the ‘majority’ of the PSP Minis that you’ll be able to play on your PS3, so everything you download from the 17th December onwards will be fine.

Sony Ericsson Aino – A PS3 Compatible Mobile Phone

October 20, 2009

sony-ericsson-aino-ps3-compatible-mobile-phoneSony Ericsson has just released their first mobile phone that is compatible with Sony’s PS3 and it’s called the Aino.

The phone will connect to the PS3 via Remote Play which will enable users to access and control all the media content they’ve stored up on their PS3’s whilst on the move. This will be done through the Internet or a local network.

The phone will duplicate the buttons of a PS3 controller on its 3 inch TFT touch screen which will let you turn your PS3 on and off, flick through your XMB (Cross Media Bar), jump onto the internet, and access any DRM media which you’ve got saved on the hard drive.

‘Mercury’ Review (PSP)

July 28, 2009

mercury-psp-coverYou may remember this game from a few years ago when the PSP was first released back in 2005. Well it’s now available for your enjoyment via the Playstation Network for the bargain price of £4.79, and with only a file size of 258MB.

You can only play this on your PSP, so don’t try to buy it expecting to play it on your PS3 – I found it much better to download via my PS3, install it and then just copy it straight over to my PSP.

It never interested me when the first game came out, but I wanted something different to play and thought it could be fun. I was right, this is my kind of puzzle game, and I can spend a good hour or two going through the puzzles at a time.

Zuma Review (PSN)

July 9, 2009

zuma-logo-screenshotThere isn’t really much I can say about a game like Zuma as it’s one of those extremely repetitive, yet addictive games that you can download from the Playstation Network (PSN) and play to kill 20 minutes or so.

The aim of the game is to eliminate all the spheres before they disappear down the hole in the centre of the puzzle. If even one sphere drops, then all of them will and you lose a life and have to start that puzzle again.

Zuma is mix between Beehive Bedlam and Jewel Quest in that you have to match 3 or more of one colour to eliminate the spheres on the puzzle. The earlier stages aren’t really too long as it allows you to get into the swing of the game and how to control your little frog character which you use to fire spheres into the puzzle.

‘Free Realms’ – Free Online RPG Game!

May 28, 2009

free-realms-logoOnline gaming is on the verge of becoming bigger than single player games, so it isn’t surprising to see another MMORPG game being released.

Free Realms is a new ‘Free’ online RPG game (or community?) set up by SOE (Sony Online Entertainment). It’s target players are more along the lines of the younger gamers. To look at it seems similar to that of the World of Warcraft graphics, in that the colours are very vibrant and cartoon like, which I quite like in games like this.

When you first sign up for Free Realms, you get to choose a character, male/female human or a male/female fairy. Not a great choice but something to start with. When you’ve chosen your character you get to select your clothing and hair styles. Again, choices are limited and then you move onto choosing your characters name. You can either create your own or choose some pre-set names like Dongo Silverhorn.
