Race Gamer: Logitech G25 Racing Wheel PS3

June 23, 2008

logitech-g25-racing-wheel-1Zath: Here’s another great syndicated gaming article on behalf of Game People, this time it’s from their latest writer, Jon Starkey, who as you can perhaps tell from the title, is a gamer who likes to play a racing game particularly using the Logitech G25 racing wheel and a GameRacer Seat. I believe this is the set-up that I played with when I went to Sega HQ to preview Sega Rally last August - so I can vouch for how great it was to use as well - I just wish I had these to play with at home! I hope you enjoy reading Jon’s perspective on gaming here and in the future - feel free to leave a comment on what you think.

Every petrol-head dreams of that perfect setup. Real cockpit, quality wheel and gear shift twinned with a console and game that can deliver the experience to match the hardware.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

June 20, 2008

uncharted-drakes-fortune-uk-coverWell what can I say about Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune? Apart from WOW!! Naughty Dog have done it again. Let me give you a ‘walkthrough guide‘ of a review of this game - don’t worry there’s no spoilers!

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune came out last year on Playstation 3 and one of the games that I really wanted to get after playing the demo. The game is made by ‘Naughty Dog’, the geniuses who brought us the ‘Jak and Daxter’ franchise which are still some of the best games that I have ever played.

Family Gamer: Dad’s Edition

June 14, 2008

family-gamer-logoDads are a tricky subject. Some are loving and inspiring whilst others absent and off hand. Some are communicative and open, whilst others are as hard to fathom as the depths of Loch Ness. Some are in touch with their creativity and at ease with their feminine side, whilst others are purely manly. Although the people I’ve got to know through Family Gamer talk about their dads in different ways, they all seem to agree that they make up a big part of what it is to be a family.

Preview of Speedball 2: ‘Missing Subtitle’

May 2, 2007

A couple of months ago now I mentioned that the Commodore Amiga classic ‘Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe’ was going to get a re-make for the current generation of machines. Well the first details have now emerged over at Eurogamer.

The main points that stood out for me are that they’re having a retro style game mode that mirrors the old game with its simple controls and viewpoint (topdown) while also having a new more challenging for today’s gamers, controllers and machines, including a more 3D view of the arena.

Cheap Playstation 3 (PS3)?

April 28, 2007

Playstation 3 - PS3

Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) console was expected to have a price drop at some point, everyone’s looking for the cheapest PS3 price, but who would have thought you would be seeing the PS3 console dropping in price from the UK launch price of £425 to a cheap bargain starting price for Sony PS3 console bundles at around £300 just 6 months later!

One of the reasons I suspect for this will be the comparatively high cost of the Sony PS3 console since it’s launch in comparison to it’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii console rivals which are both outselling it. The reported sales of the PS3 console in the UK and how they fell since the launch week was something that was discussed here on the Zath Forums - I think it was because the launch price was anything but cheap!

Playstation 3 Doubles Folding@Home Output!

April 26, 2007

I recently wrote about how you could put your spare computer time to good use by taking part in the Folding@Home project and that Playstation 3 owners could now harness the idle computing power of their new “beast” of a console by running Folding@Home software.

PS3s may not be selling as well as expected, but many of those PS3’s sold have now joined in this project, GameDailyBiz have reported that Stanford University (who run this programme) have announced that the total computing power being utilised in this good cause has now been doubled!

Folding@home - Put Your Idle Computer to Good Use

March 22, 2007

Folding@home is a way of putting your idle computer to good use by means of distributed computing project which is similar to one of the first projects of this type; SETI@home. It uses the spare computing cycles of your home computer by sending it a small chunk of work to process, which alone isn’t a great amount, but when thousands of other computers are also contributing to a project in this manner, all that combined processing power equals a huge supercomputer which can process highly complex data.

In this case, the data in question centres around simulating the folding of proteins in the human brain - which when they fold incorrectly cause diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. Folding@home hopes to help in the medical research of finding cures to these diseases and you can help this research by downloading and running the Folding@home software.
