Palm’s CES Press Event – Palm Pre & Pixi News (CES 2010)

January 7, 2010

Palm have just had their press event at CES 2010, and it comes with some rather exciting news, and quite a few new releases to watch out for, both hardware and software!

Software wise, there are three major announcements that have been made – two of these are for users of the Palm Pré only though. Although, coming to both the Pré and the Pixi with an update to WebOS in February is video recording capabilities!

No hard specs on how capable the video recording is yet, but it’s certainly a nice feature to have on both of Palm’s devices. Along with video recording capability also comes a trimming feature which appears strikingly similar to that of the iPhone, with two handles at either end of a timeline which the user drags into place to trim their clip. Recordings can also be directly uploaded to YouTube and Facebook and sent over e-Mail or MMS.

Buy Palm Pre Exclusively On O2 Network (UK)

October 20, 2009

palm-pre-uk-buy-on-o2-closedWell you can now buy the Palm Pre in the UK – but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we suffer quite a bit here in the UK from late releases and it seems we have to wait a reasonable period of time to get even some of the biggest names in tech – even this week we had the Kindle 2 and Mintpass, both of which have been available in the US and Korea respectively for ages!

This is a shame cause it not only means we have to wait but I feel the manufacturers themselves also suffer as the original euphoria from when the Palm Pre was first announced has somewhat died down over time – but now it’s time for the ‘Palm Pre’ to make its UK debut, and I’m sure Palm will be hoping that the interest is still strong, as will O2 who have the exclusivity on the handset in the UK.

April Fools 2009 Roundup

April 2, 2009

april-fool-jesterOn the 1st April every year we take the opportunity to make fun of people less aware of the date than us, but this has risen from a friendly tradition into a massive event where companies will try and come up with the most outrageous ideas and products, and hope that people will believe them.

This year is no different as the internet has become overloaded with fake news stories aimed to spark a little bit of humour into your day – so we have had a good look through them and have singled out some of the best technology related April Fools stories of this year:

3rd Generation iPhone to Feature OLED Screen?

March 20, 2009

iphone-3gWith the recent announcement of the iPhone 3.0 software, many people are now starting to speculate as to whether the release of the next 3rd generation of iPhone will be coming sometime in 2009 to co-incide with this software update release much like the iPhone 3G did with the iPhone 2.0 software update.

Also given the upcoming release this year of the Palm Pre which could possibly be the iPhone’s strongest competitor to date, it would make sense for Apple to address this new threat to their dominance with not only a software update, but a new handset featuring improved hardware features.

Palm Pre – Palm Smartphone Is Back?

January 10, 2009

palm-pre-smartphone-openWhen you think of a smart phone you automatically think of the iPhone, the Blackberry Storm/Bold and ever impressive HTC offerings. In fact even the Nokia E71 and G1 often come to mind before any Palm product, which considering how big a role Palm has played in the smartphone sector is a little worrying. But hopefully things are about to change with their new release just revealed at the CES – the Palm Pre.

The Palm Pre is aiming to break into the top of the market, and hopefully dislodge the iPhone, it is a radical step forward from the previous Treo phone as it embraces multi-touch, wireless charging and a sleek sliding design. The Operating System has been revamped as well so that it now not only integrates better with sources (such as computers, e-mail or Facebook) but includes ‘gesture’ control which Palm claims will dramatically increase ease of use.
