LG Chocolate (BL20) Review

January 11, 2010

In October we saw the release of the latest addition to the relatively successful ‘Chocolate’ range with the LG Chocolate BL40 which, with its good looks (most notably the ‘super-widescreen’) and wide array of features, promised and then proved to be very popular thus setting itself up well as a rival to the other smartphones out at the time.

Seeing how high spec the LG Chocolate (BL40) was it made perfect sense for LG to stretch the range further and release a lower end version which they duly have done with the LG Chocolate (BL20) – essentially a viciously cut down smaller sister of the BL40.

LG Mobile Event (November 2009)

November 23, 2009

lg-logoHere at Zath we’ve had the opportunity to attend several LG Mobile events over the past year or two including ones for the launch of the LG Renoir (KC910), the LG Arena (KM900) and the LG Chocolate (BL40), however this time round we were invited to the learn about and play with a bunch of current and upcoming mobile phones from LG.

The event featured several mobile phones, some of which we’d seen before, but others were completely new – we’ll be covering these in more detail in separate articles, but here’s a quick run-down of what we were able to have a closer look at:

LG Chocolate (BL40) Review

October 10, 2009

lg-chocolate-bl40The original LG Chocolate proved pretty popular when it was released, and despite the fact that it was new a good few years ago you still see a few of them around – mostly because of its looks which remain pretty stylish. Well now the LG Chocolate (BL40) is back in a totally different form.

Ditching the slider design (which seems to have fallen out of fashion recently) it has unsurprisingly moved to the touchscreen option, and if you’re thinking that it looks slightly odd you’re 100% correct because it uses a distinctive 4” 21:9 aspect ratio touchscreen which promises to enhance your multimedia viewing and generally help to produce a great phone.

LG Crystal (GD900) Review

September 20, 2009

lg-crystal-gd900-see-through-handsetBack in June we brought you a preview of the LG Crystal as well as the video preview, and now that it’s been released and we thought we’d have another look and see if the LG Crystal has lived up to expectations.

These expectations were understandably quite high, as they are generally for any phone released by one of the big manufacturers these days, but especially because this was the first phone to have a transparent keypad; however those laurels would not be enough and LG will have had to back up this with some good features to make it worthwhile. So have they? Read on!

LG Chocolate (BL40) Launch Event

September 8, 2009

lg-chocolate-bl40Last week, I was invited to the launch of the new LG Chocolate BL40 mobile phone at the Design Museum. The phrase “receiving champagne on entry” used in this context does not refer to some sexual act, but does show you their gracious hospitality. The event was snazzed up with the use of partially dressed models holding different handsets (including the recently launched LG Crystal) and posing for you in a variety of fashions. All excellent eye-candy as far as I’m concerned.

Another piece of technological eye-candy is the actual phone itself. Boasting a 4-inch 21:9 widescreen VGA display with a modest main display resolution of 345 x 800 pixels, and a video resolution of 640×480 with a 5MP camera, I don’t think you can say LG have done a bad job here. In fact, they haven’t. And they know it.

LG Arena (KM900) Review

August 9, 2009

lg-arena-km900-242A couple of days ago we brought you news of the new INQ mobiles which was aimed more at the cheaper end of the market (not that it was in any way devoid of features), so we thought to compliment it that a look at the new LG Arena KM900 (or just LG Arena) was necessary.

On first look the Arena just looks like one 3” screen that has been surrounded in chrome (almost like an iPhone with a horribly cheap case) but although the white and black don’t combine brilliantly it is definitely phone that looks smart and wouldn’t be out of place on either a boardroom desk or a street corner in Hackney.

LG Crystal (GD900) Video Preview

July 28, 2009

lg-crystal-gd900-blue-bgYou may remember reading about our recent LG Crystal (GD900) preview here on Zath and how we rather liked the look of the futuristic-looking see-through keypad/touchpad, well now Helen over at the LG Blog has filmed a short video showing off this rather novel mobile phone handset.

It certainly seems to look like it responds pretty well in general operation and I do rather like the way you get the subtle glow of the keypad as its touched and then it fades to back to being see-through soon afterwards.

LG Crystal (GD900) Preview

June 1, 2009

lg-logoLG has now released new handset to add to their ever expanding range of mobile phone options and this one is called the LG Crystal (GD900).

With their recent mobile phone handsets that we’ve covered here on Zath, the LG Renoir (KC910) and the LG Arena (KM900), you’d have thought that LG were firmly targeting the iPhone-style large touchscreen handset market, well they’ve now returned with a new sliding handset.

LG Arena (KM900) Launch Event

April 6, 2009

lg-arena-km900-242During this past week on the 1st April, LG held another of their events similar to the previous LG Secret launch event and LG Renoir launch event, but these are no April Fools jokes! – These events give some of us bloggers the opportunity to get some hands-on time and experience of the their latest mobile phone handset which we’ve previously covered with our LG Arena (KM900) preview.

The new LG Arena compares favourably and builds upon the success of the LG Renoir (KC910) which was launched late last year – an interesting difference is that the LG Renoir has an 8 mega-pixel camera while the LG Arena only has a 5 mega-pixel camera – clearly LG are making some differentiation between handsets here. Presumably, the Renoir would be a better choice for someone wanting to take top quality photo and video capturing, while perhaps the Arena would be better as a general “multimedia consumption” mobile phone handset.

LG Arena KM900 Preview

February 9, 2009

lg-logoLG have released details on the LG Blog of their next flagship mobile phone for 2009 – the LG Arena KM900. From the brief details listed on the preview post, it would appear that LG are certainly building upon the design success of the LG Renoir KC910 which was a touchscreen-based handset which featured great camera and media functionality.

The LG Arena KM900 will be a fully-featured multimedia mobile phone that utilises a customisable 3D cube-like user interface for navigating the menu system and accessing the various features of the phone. This should hopefully make this handset very easy to use given it is a touchscreen mobile phone as so many new handsets are now.
