Playstation Move Announced (PS3 Motion Controller)

March 11, 2010

sony-playstation-move-ps3-motion-controllerIt’s taken a while for the official name of the Playstation 3 motion controller, ‘wand’, ‘arc’ or whatever else people wanted to call it, but Sony have released the official name for their motion controller as the ‘Playstation Move‘.

The announcement was made at GDC yesterday along with a trailer of the type of games that we’ll be looking at playing to start off with. With true 1:1 motion control, it is said to be more responsive than Nintendo’s Wii Motion Plus controllers which is a bold statement.

I’m looking forward to seeing just how the PS3 Move is and what kind of games will be released for it. The fact we’ll be able to play motion controlled games in HD isn’t really a major factor. What I want is a game that uses Move and to get me really immersed in the action. I’m not one for the gimmicky party titles so I’d like to see some new IP games created for use with Move and see how that pans out.

Sony Motion Controller (Arc) Release Date Delayed

January 21, 2010

Sony have announced that their new PS3 motion controller, which was due out this Spring, has had it’s release date pushed back to Autumn 2010 for a worldwide release.

The reason it seems as to why this has been delayed is that:

“We have decided to release the Motion Controller in Fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users”

So by the sounds of that, it means that companies aren’t getting the games ready on time for the PS3 motion controller’s original release date and it will now go up against Microsoft’s Project Natal release date that will happen around the same time. Will this delay turn out to be a poor move from Sony?

Nintendo Wii Price Cut Coming To The UK

September 28, 2009

cheap-nintendo-wiiWhat’s that? The Nintendo Wii is finally getting a price cut? Well sat here in Europe we suffer a little in the UK when it comes to international releases: more often than not we are the last of the major technology players to get the latest stuff – behind the US, Japan and occasionally small tribes in Outer Mongolia.

This rule also applies to price cuts and yet again we find that Nintendo have seen to the US before us, however I doubt many people will be complaining because at least it has actually managed to jump the Atlantic. Yes, this is the news that the Nintendo Wii price cut is coming to the UK!

Sony PS3 Motion Sensor Controller

June 4, 2009

ps3-motion-sensor-controller-demoAfter Microsoft announced their impressive Xbox Project Natal, it was Sony’s turn with their PS3 motion sensor controller, and after what I’ve read I feel very…….meh!!

Not that it doesn’t look impressive, but it’s nothing new. It seems exactly the same as Nintendo’s Wii remote and their Wii Motion Plus. Sony are boasting true 1:1 motion control and the video, which you can see below, really does make it look good, but again, it’s nothing new.

sony-playstation-3-console-controllerWith E3 on the horizon, rumours are bound to be popping up. This one talks of a motion sensing controller for Sony’s Playstation 3.

There have been reports that someone has seen a working prototype of the Sony motion sensor controller which is set to make an appearance at E3 this year in June.

Wii Motion Plus Release Date

May 5, 2009

wii-motion-plusWell it seems like a long time ago since Nintendo first announced their Wii Motion Plus system as an improvement to their already successful motion-based control system for the Nintendo Wii console – and indeed it has been a long time, it’s nearly a year since E3 2008 at which it was first announced, but we’ve finally got word of the Wii Motion Plus release date.

I don’t personally have a Wii, but have played on them in the past and have been quite impressed by what they are capable of, however until I saw the videos over on our original coverage of the Wii Motion Plus system, I wasn’t aware of the limitations of the Wii motion sensors – mainly that it was only able to differentiate large sweeping movements, but then most games to date had been designed with this constraint in mind, so you may not have noticed it that much.

Is The Wii Drying Up?

April 17, 2009

cheap-nintendo-wiiJust perusing the Internet, as you do, and have been reading things about the Nintendo Wii that show that people are starting to realise that the Wii is starting to struggle.

Those views have been acknowledged by Nintendo themselves.

In Japan, the Wii has sold under 20,000 units each week for the past 6 weeks and although this may seem a lot, apparently, it’s bad news in the terms of console wars.

Wii Motion Plus

August 25, 2008

wii-motion-plusNintendo are set to release a new attachment for the Wiimote called ‘Wii Motion Plus’.

The idea behind this is to improve the responsiveness of the Wiimote and make every little movement count and make it a true 1:1 experience.

All you need to do it plug the Motion Plus into the bottom of the Wiimote to give you a more realistic control over what you do on screen.
