Lego Universe Preview (Lego Online Game)

January 20, 2010

There has been a Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Racer, Lego Soccer Mania and a Lego Rock Band. It seems like the Lego characters are making there way into every game genre. There latest game, Lego Universe is to be released later this year, is a Lego online game, specifically a massively mutiplayer online (MMO) game developed by NetDevil. The game is a highly ambitious title aimed towards kids. I wonder why they just didn’t go ahead and make a Lego World of Warcraft?

The objective of the game is to join together with other players across the world and help the Lego Universe battle a dark force known as the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom has come to rid the world of imagination and it’s the player’s job to stop that from happening.

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Sign-Ups Open

December 18, 2009

final-fantasy-14-logoJust as Final Fantasy XIII has been released in Japan (slightly jealous), Final Fantasy XIV Online Beta has been made available for people to sign up and apply to get their hands on some early gameplay time in Europe and the US of A.

At the minute the Beta is only available for the PC, but nothing has yet been announced as regards the Playstation 3 version of the game. Obviously, I’ve applied for the PC Beta as I’d love to play this because of what I saw in the Final Fantasy XIV trailer which I’ve mentioned in the past.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Bioware E3 Interview

June 23, 2009

star-wars-the-old-republic-logoA few weeks ago we reported on how the cinematic trailer of Star Wars: The Old Republic had been released at E3 2009 – I think from just seeing that it’s clear that Bioware really understands Star Wars and what us fans really want see in a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game set in the Star Wars universe.

In this interview two of the guys from Bioware talk with Gamespot about the history of this game so far, how they’re approaching it and why it will be different from the other MMO games currently on the market – every character in the game will be fully-voiced to help create the many stories and involvement that your character will have in the Old Republic – no more reading what characters are saying and having stories that only last as long as a short quest as you might expect in a game like World of Warcraft.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Trailer

June 8, 2009

star-wars-the-old-republic-logoThe first Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer was unveiled at E3 2009, it’s cinematic in nature and is presumably the setting the scene for what will be the scenario in which the game takes place.

It was late last year that Star Wars: The Old Republic was announced by Lucasarts and Bioware as a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game that would be set in the distant past of the Old Republic thousands of years before the time of the Star Wars movies and the events that most people are familiar with, except of course for those of us who have played the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) games in the past.

Final Fantasy XIV Trailer

June 3, 2009

final-fantasy-14-trailer-screenshotWhere the hell did this Final Fantasy XIV news come from??

Square Enix have not only unveiled an English demo of Final Fantasy XIII at E3 this year, but have just dropped a nuclear announcement that Final Fantasy XIV will be released as early as 2010. Presumably it will be released after the delayed Final Fantasy XIII release or otherwise we will be getting our numbering system all mixed up!

‘Free Realms’ – Free Online RPG Game!

May 28, 2009

free-realms-logoOnline gaming is on the verge of becoming bigger than single player games, so it isn’t surprising to see another MMORPG game being released.

Free Realms is a new ‘Free’ online RPG game (or community?) set up by SOE (Sony Online Entertainment). It’s target players are more along the lines of the younger gamers. To look at it seems similar to that of the World of Warcraft graphics, in that the colours are very vibrant and cartoon like, which I quite like in games like this.

When you first sign up for Free Realms, you get to choose a character, male/female human or a male/female fairy. Not a great choice but something to start with. When you’ve chosen your character you get to select your clothing and hair styles. Again, choices are limited and then you move onto choosing your characters name. You can either create your own or choose some pre-set names like Dongo Silverhorn.

World of Warcraft Mouse Review

February 4, 2009

world-of-warcraft-mouse-2I’ve been looking forward to getting the chance to play with the World of Warcraft mouse and review it since we first previewed it a few months ago and now here is our review of this custom gaming mouse.

Initially what struck me most of all about this World of Warcraft mouse was the box that it comes in being in the shape and action of a treasure chest – yes not only looks like a chest with the mouse shown in the centre of it, but it also opens up in a similar manner with the top being hinged and upon opening you see the mouse is shown in the middle of gold and jewels – very World of Warcraft-like!

Once I’d got into the box properly, I was rather surprised with what I found, although it did take a little bit of figuring out as I didn’t want to damage this novel packaging – good job that I wasn’t recording an unboxing video of it!

Football Manager Live Trailer

January 8, 2009

football-manager-live-logoI’ve been playing Football Manager Live on a semi-regular basis since the “Shearer Gameworld” went live in early December.

I’ve not yet quite made up my mind as to exactly what I think to it as yet as it’s still in the early stages and with a new Football Manager Live update v1.1 to go live in the coming week – I’m guessing that this will be a more refined version of the game now that Sports Interactive are now going to be distributing and promoting the game through the regular channels – thus far, it’s mainly been been promoted online and you could only get the game by subscribing and downloading the client.

Playstation Home Review (BETA)

December 14, 2008

playstation-home-logoIt’s been too long in being released, and the one thing that the majority of PS3 owners have been so eagerly awaiting.

Playstation Home is finally live around the world……and it’s still hard to get onto it!

I am keeping in mind that this is only the BETA version, so it’s nowhere near as big or popular as it will eventually be, and you can tell. This is but a taster of what’s to come, with a few hiccups until the full version is available.

When the Home icon appeared on my XMB (Cross Media Bar), I thought it was Christmas Day. So I downloaded and installed the 77MB file and pressed ‘X’ to get it going!

Playstation Home Released!

December 11, 2008

playstation-home-logoIt’s finally here. Playstation Home is released to the Playstation 3 ‘world’ as of 11th December 2008. I’m writing this at 23:05 on 10th December 2008 (or am I writing this from the future of 2009? Anyway……..) and hoping it will appear at midnight, but knowing my luck it won’t and I’ll have to work until getting ‘home’ from work to delve into…Home. Also the possibility that this is the US release date, but I hope it isn’t and it is worldwide!

Home is the new free online community where you can create your own avatar, and apartment and mingle with folks from around the world. Share game tactics, have a heart to heart conversion, no doubt someone will get married over it in due course and create their own basement cupboard to live in.
