Boxee Media Center Review (Windows)

Labelled as the first ever ‘Social Media Center’, Boxee is an open source programme that aims to open up the world of music, video, TV and the internet in an easy to use way. We’ve managed to get our hands on a private invitation to the Windows version of Boxee – so we thought we’d have a good look around and see what the rest of you have got in store!
When you first open up Boxee and login you are confronted with a sleek and stylish layout – the learning curve for navigating this system is almost nonexistent as it is intuitive, quick and easy with both the mouse and a remote – which is a relief as there is quite a lot to navigate:

Joost is a free TV video online service where you can watch a variety of different TV shows whenever is convenient to you; you’re not tied to TV schedules here.
Since it launched as a public Joost beta around May 2007 it’s been developed and various improvements made to the service along the way. Now what’s probably the most notable of changes that has been made is the fact that you no longer need to download and install a separate application in which to view the Joost TV programming content.
All you need to do now is visit the Joost website and register for an account – or login if you an account from using the Joost application like I did – for the first time in over a year I may add!

Over the last few weeks there’s been quite a lot of talk on the Internet about Joost, so in case you haven’t heard about it and tried it yet, I thought I’d just cover the basics of it here.
As you can see from the advert below, Joost combines the best of TV and the Internet. It gives you the ability to watch high quality, full-screen TV shows through your internet connection – I was rather impressed with how good the quality of the picture is when played on my HDTV using a HTPC!
There are no TV schedules to live by, simply load up the Joost application and choose what you want to watch when it’s convenient to you!
