Daniusoft Media Converter Ultimate Review

January 22, 2010

Daniusoft Media Converter Ultimate is a program designed to do a host of things with your media files, from ripping and burning DVD’s to removing the DRM off iTunes downloads. You’ll definitely have a tough time finding more features in another media suite, but how does it hold up against other programs of its nature?

The feature of this media converter that intrigued me the most when I first saw it was the DRM removal tool. This especially piqued my interest as I download a lot of content from the iTunes store, including HDTV shows and podcasts. To me, being able to convert high definition content is a must in any such program, so I was naturally skeptical when adding my files to the conversion list.

MKV2VOB Review (MKV HD Video File Converter)

October 28, 2009

mkv2vob-logoBeing a PS3 owner can be fairly frustrating at times. Particularly, when you are trying to watch movies or TV shows. There are so many restrictions it can drive you insane. Yes, I’ve heard of programs such as TVersity which stream directly from your PC to PS3, however, unfortunately for me my PS3 is positioned in a place where it cannot access the wireless network and I simply refuse to have Ethernet cables sprawled all around my home. So what should I do? Well, a number of months ago I stumbled across a program called MKV2VOB.

At the time, I wasn’t too impressed so after not too long, I gave up. But just recently, I decided to give it another try after hearing about a major new update. And now, finally, I have the solution to all my problems with the PS3.

Microsoft Zune HD Video Demo

June 1, 2009

microsoft-zune-logoYou can now see the Microsoft Zune HD in action in the following video! Last week we reported that the Microsoft Zune HD had been announced after much speculation over the months as to what it might actually encompass as a device. Some of the wilder ideas such as it being a portable Xbox gaming device or it being a Zune mobile phone to compete with Apple’s media player/mobile phone, the iPhone – as we saw these were pretty wide of the mark.

Microsoft Zune HD Announced

May 27, 2009

microsoft-zune-logoWith regards to the Zune, Microsoft is generally seen as being a one trick pony – it can play music and videos, and that’s it, not that impressive from one of the world’s biggest companies. Not only that, but it has a very limited (if loyal) fan base as it doesn’t really stand up to the competition of Apple’s offerings in style, ergonomics or general brand appeal.

But Microsoft aim to change all of this with the release of the much rumoured Zune HD which should not only thrust itself into the top of the market, but also evolve Zune into more of a brand, something that hints of more diverse things to come.

Living in HD – Panasonic Camera Competition

April 27, 2009

living-in-hd-logoLiving in HD is a community site for enthusiasts of things to do with digital video, photography and HDTV who are looking for a place where they can learn from others and also share their own knowledge in what is becoming an increasingly popular field as more and more people take up hobbies around digital video, photography and HDTV.

Since the Living in HD community is driven by its users then it means that they will tend to be less biased than similar information found on the manufacturers’ websites, however this site would appear to be a part of or at least sponsored by Panasonic still.

I can see this type of website being very useful to both beginners and more experienced users all round and the whole peer-to-peer knowledge aspect is somewhat like you’d find in a forum. However this community website is presented in a much better way that makes the experience of using it more engaging than a simple forum as people can share the results of their creativity.

A Plasma TV Ban In The Future?

January 13, 2009

giant-plasma-tv-1Could a Plasma TV ban really be forthcoming? Well we all know about the massive commitments that the Government has made with regards to carbon emissions for the coming years, most of which have been done through the backing (or rather cajoling) of the EU. But with the growing economic problems, and the large amount of money that the government is spending to bail out failing companies, there is less incentive and money to spend on this issue.

However the green brigade are back, and this time their targets are firmly on something that have been escalating in size and power usage over the last few years, something that is often on and something that we all wish we have: Giant Plasma TV’s such as the LG Plasma TVs and the Pioneer Plasma TVs we’ve recently covered here on Zath. They have been coined the 4×4 of the living room, and that is relatively not far from the truth when you consider that a 42 inch Plasma TV can use around 822 kilowatt hours a year.

Pioneer KURO Plasma TVs

January 6, 2009

pioneer-kuro-plasma-tv-beigePioneer recently introduced a new range of plasma TVs to its already comprehensive line-up that they have on offer. I’ve been a big fan of Pioneer products ever since I started getting into Home Cinema when DVDs first appeared and given I’m now casting my eye on potential upgrades to my 32” Samsung LCD TV, these 50” Pioneer KURO Plasma TVs look very good!

These limited edition models certainly add to the exclusivity of the Pioneer KURO models, in this case they feature white and beige cases and are just 64mm in depth! This way the case frames are distinctive, but shouldn’t be too distracting given the deep black colours that these TVs’ pictures offer.

LG Plasma TVs

October 3, 2008

lg-plasma-tvThe latest range of LG Plasma TV were recently unveiled at an LG Plasma TV bloggers’ event at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage football ground (LG are their sponsor).

There were three new models on show at the event and these were as follows:

  • LG 32PG6000 (720p) – this is the world’s first production 32? Plasma, normally plasmas are much larger, this would be great if you have a smallish room to fill.
  • LG 50PG6900 (1080p) – this 50″ model features a dual-tuner Freeview+ Plasma with built-in 160GB PVR – very useful indeed!
  • LG 50PG70000 (1080p) – this 50″ beast is the top-of-the-line Plasma with features such as Bluetooth connectivity.

When it comes to home cinema displays – you generally need to make a choice between a high definition LCD or plasma TV. I always spend a lot of time researching what is currently considered the best in terms of quality at my set price point to make sure I get the best deal.
