Championship Manager 2010 Review (PC)

November 17, 2009

championship-manager-2010-pc-coverI have to be honest, since the parting of the ways between Eidos and Sports Interactive and the formation of the Football Manager series; I’ve not been a great fan of the Championship Manager series. However, due to my inability to wait for the newest batch of football games, I rushed in and bought Championship Manager 2010 for what I wanted to pay for it. And I have to say, I don’t regret it in the slightest.

I really believe that they have got their name back in the game this year with a truly fantastic football management game. Unfortunately, I haven’t played any version of Championship Manager since 2004/2005 so this review can only be based on my impressions of this game and comparisons with rival titles. Forgive me if I comment on features that have been in it for a few years.

Football Manager 2010 Review (PC/Mac)

November 15, 2009

football-manager-2010-pc-box-coverWith another football season underway, a new version of Football Manager is the highlight of the month for me – I racked up a lot of game time with FM 2009, and grabbed a copy of Football Manager 2010 on release day to start all over again with a new club and a very different user interface that took a while to get used to…

The first thing that I noticed immediately was the time it takes to create a new game, or the lack of… Being a long time Football Manager player, I’m quite accustomed to waiting a long time for a new game to setup, so I was very impressed when my game was set up and ready to go in less than 60 seconds after selecting my team (Gateshead if you’re interested; I like a challenge).

How Much For Championship Manager 2010? Just Pay What You Want!

August 19, 2009

championship-manager-2010-pc-coverThe Championship Manager football-based series have been going for a while now (in fact since 1993 with the original Championship Manager) but since the Eidos/Sports Interactive split before Championship Manager 5, many have felt that it has lost some of the spark that it previously had and the new ‘Football Manager’ made quite an impact.

So, in an attempt to re-secure their place at the top of the football-management genre they have come up with a new idea to boost sales, and it is one that copies the strategy used by Radiohead a few years back: letting you pay what you like for the game.

Football Manager Live Voucher Code (5% off)

May 6, 2009

football-manager-live-logoWe’ve been big fans of the Football Manager (FM) games over the years and when Sports Interactive released their online Football Manager Live (FML) game we had to get signed up and get playing, how I wish they’d be a Football Manager Live voucher code back then!

That was 6 months ago and we’re still paying our monthly subscription and playing our football matches against all sorts of randomly named teams – so it certainly has some staying power for most of us!

Football Manager Live Trailer

January 8, 2009

football-manager-live-logoI’ve been playing Football Manager Live on a semi-regular basis since the “Shearer Gameworld” went live in early December.

I’ve not yet quite made up my mind as to exactly what I think to it as yet as it’s still in the early stages and with a new Football Manager Live update v1.1 to go live in the coming week – I’m guessing that this will be a more refined version of the game now that Sports Interactive are now going to be distributing and promoting the game through the regular channels – thus far, it’s mainly been been promoted online and you could only get the game by subscribing and downloading the client.

Football Manager 2009 Update v9.1.0

November 25, 2008

football-manager-2009On the day of release the first Football Manager 2009 update v9.1.0 was available for the game – how’s that for service from Sports Interactive?

Obviously, some people could view this as being a bugged game being sent out for release too early, but I’m pleased to see that the guys over at Sports Interactive have that much commitment to their franchise that they are always looking to fix bugs and improve it to make Football Manager the best football management game out there.

This year marks the first year that Football Manager will be available through Valve’s Steam system – their digital game distribution download system has been really successful since it was launched with Half Life 2 and it’s now probably the leading platform out there.

Football Manager Live Launch Dates

October 27, 2008

Football Manager LiveThe Football Manager Live launch dates have been put back a little from the original projected dates at the end of October!

This is because of issues that have been found during the latest round of beta testing, specifically the recent Stress Test – Sports Interactive invited a bunch of players to test out the game on one gameworld a few weeks back to simulate what a live gameworld (server) would be like put under heavy (more than expected) load of players in the game.

After missing out on the beta during the last year or so, I was very pleased to be invited to have a chance at participating in this Football Manager Live stress test. It basically involved starting out as a new manager and playing the game as you would normally, I somehow stumbled around the game and found my way around and liked what I found so far in this Football Manager Live preview of things to come.
