Avatar 3D: Extended Cut To Be Released?

March 14, 2010

avatar-poster-2There’s talk of re-releasing Avatar but with an extended cut version of the highest grossing film to ever hit the screen this summer.

The extra footage is said to be around 10-12 minutes, which isn’t a lot, but any excuse to see Avatar in 3D again is good enough for me. Some of the extra scenes that could be added are Jake Sully’s avatar proving himself to the Na’vi and Tsu’tey getting drunk at a native festival.

To be honest, I don’t think it would be detrimental to the film for leaving these scenes out as I was amazed with Avatar both times that I saw it in all it’s 3D glory.

Tron Legacy Trailer #2

March 9, 2010

tron-legacy-posterI mentioned last week that Disney were talking about a possible Tron trilogy, but only if the new Tron Legacy does well at the cinema.

Well following on from the back of that news, a new trailer has been released and I cannot wait to see this film. Looking at the original Tron trailer, you can see how dated it is, yet is still remains a classic. But Tron Legacy will be the way that Tron was meant to be seen, and the fact that we’ll be able to watch it in 3D is all the more exciting.

Iron Man 2 Trailer #2

March 8, 2010

iron-man-2-poster-war-machineA new Iron Man 2 trailer is doing the rounds on the big WWW and it’s looking like it could be just as good, if not even better than the first. From what I saw, it looks like Tony Stark is lapping up his new found mega fame as Iron Man, but the US government aren’t best pleased and want Iron Man to be owned by the US Military.

A bit more is shown of Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash and of Iron Man and War Machine fighting together which does look pretty awesome! There’s also a new Iron Man suit this time around which looks like a portable suit of some kind that Tony Stark can carry around with him, but don’t worry, the red and gold suit is still there.

Possible Tron Trilogy On Its Way?

March 2, 2010

tron-legacy-posterIt’s not even out yet, but there’s already talk of a new Tron trilogy…….IF the upcoming ‘Tron: Legacy’ can make a huge sum of money at the box office.

Disney has said because of the hype that Tron: Legacy is starting to pick up, it’s likely that a trilogy will be on the cards. Following on from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is this a good thing? Pirates was amazing, but got worse as they went along (mainly because of Orlando Bloom’s and Kiera Knightleys god awful performances…in my opinion).

If it hadn’t been for one Johnny Depp, those films would have failed abysmally, no wonder they won’t be back, but Johnny Depp will return for a 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Wolfman Review

March 2, 2010

wolfman-posterWolfman (15)

Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt
Director: Joe Johnston
Running Time: 102 minutes

I like most people have never seen the original 1941 film ‘The Wolf Man’, so despite being a remake this subtly reworded film (notice the one word rather than two!) this film pretty much had a clean slate – however much Universal tried to mess it up by taking years to make it, struggling to find a director and having numerous re-edits!

I’m also not a massive horror fan – that is not to say I don’t like them, rather I won’t go out of my way to watch them – so you can take my word with slightly more validity than a horror addict that this was in fact an enjoyable film despite the at best mediocre reviews it has been getting.

Die Hard 5 To Keep Franchise Alive?

February 23, 2010

die-hard-john-mcclane-bruce-willisBruce Willis has come out and let the world know that Die Hard 5 looks to be on the table. Whilst doing the press tour for his new film, John McClane himself said:

“I think we’re going to do a Die Hard 5 next year”

Personally I think that they should leave it alone. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Die Hard 4.0, but I think they could end up ruining the franchise. I could be wrong and the fifth outing for John McClane could be the best yet but I’m sure this news will be getting mixed opinions amongst fans. Bruce Willis also said that he wants to take it worldwide instead of staying in the States.

Avatar 3D Review

January 1, 2010

Avatar 3D (12A)

Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez
Director: James Cameron
Running Time: 161 minutes

Avatar was said to be revolutionary, state of the art, will change the way we watch cinema and I couldn’t agree more. This film is immense.

Usually when films develop as much hype as this has picked up, we’re all usually let down big time and the best bits are shown in the trailers. But this wasn’t to be the case with Avatar and its trailer. The backbone of the story sees humans on a planet (which is actually a moon) called Pandora, and they’re there to mine for a certain mineral which is ridiculously expensive and it just so happens that the biggest deposit of the mineral is right underneath the natives’ (who are called the Na’vi) home.

‘The Hangover’ DVD Review

December 7, 2009

the-hangover-dvd-cover-ukI never managed to get myself to the cinema to see The Hangover (15), but I’ve finally been able to watch it and it’s a brilliant albeit weird comedy. Whilst watching it, it reminded me a little of ‘Dude Where’s My Car’ in the sense that these guys wake up and can’t remember for the life of them what happened the night before or where their friend Doug is.

The story is about 4 friends going to Vegas on a stag do only for it to end up being a complete nightmare. One of the guys is the groom’s brother-in-law to be and is one of the funniest, if not the funniest, character of the film because some of the stuff he comes out with is beyond weird. He’s a bit simple to put it bluntly. The groom is a normal guy whose out for a laugh, another is the wild one of the bunch and the third is a normal guy who has to lie to his bossy girlfriend about where he’s going because he’s scared of what she’ll do to him.

‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Blu-Ray Review (1974)

November 13, 2009

texas-chainsaw-massacre-seriously-ultimate-edition-blu-ray-coverThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre (18) release from 1974 was meant to be one of the scariest films all of time, and with it being converted onto Blu-Ray, it should look even better. But unfortuantely that couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Obviously this was made 35 years ago so at the time it could have been seen as scary, but I found myself to be laughing more than being scared. The acting in this film is beyond appalling and I couldn’t have cared less if the characters died or not. From annoying, whiny voices that only a five year old kid would make, to constant screaming that is completely unnecessary and hair pulling annoying.

Ctrl+Alt+Shift at the Raindance Film Festival 2009

October 11, 2009

ctrl-alt-shift-logoLast week I was invited to attend the 17th annual Raindance Film Festival by a pretty special company called Ctrl+Alt+Shift. I say special and mean it in the most unique fashion. The collection of short films they had on show for people to watch was mesmerising.

As part of a competition in 2008, Ctrl+Alt+Shift had five places up for grabs whereby upcoming filmmakers had the opportunity to learn from some very talented stars and create their own pieces of work alongside them. The aspiring filmmakers were to write a treatment based around one of three global issues – war & peace, gender & power and HIV & stigma.
