Facebook Continues To Grow Towards World Domination?

September 17, 2009

facebook-logoOk, so maybe world dominance is a bit of an exaggeration, but it would not be to say that Facebook is big and today brings confirmation of just how much they have been growing and what lies in store for the future of the social network leader.

One of the two things that Facebook have announced today regards the number of people that regularly use the site on a monthly basis, and it a number that has increased by 50 million in just the last few months from 250 million in July to 300 million today.

Facebook Lite Launched – A Faster and Cleaner Interface!

September 15, 2009

facebook-logoEasily the most popular social networking site at the time of writing, Facebook has shot to fame over the last couple of years, and also means that as the site has developed (or should we say Facebook Redesigns and yet more Facebook Re-Redesigns) it has become more and more convoluted with adverts, boxes and stupidly addictive little flash games that somehow waste hours of your life.

It’s also becoming less friendly for the millions of people that access Facebook on the smaller screens (mobiles etc) or for those with poor connections to the internet as the site takes longer to load-what’s needed is a leaner meaner Facebook; step up Facebook Lite.

Twitter Gives Better Results Than Google?

May 19, 2009

twitter-logoCan Twitter ever be better than Google? Well perhaps in the future we might get a definitive answer to that question; however I thought I’d write about a recent situation where I found that Twitter gave me a better result when looking for an answer than the mighty Google did! Especially given I was originally I was anything but an advocate of Twitter, in fact a couple of years ago when I started this blog I was a big skeptic and did question of what is the point of Twitter?

First of all, I’m not comparing Twitter’s in-built searching capability of tweets with that of Google’s searching of webpages – I’m sure Google is still the finest indexer of information out there and if there is an answer to what you’re looking for, I believe it can get you to it more efficiently than other search engines, be it Yahoo, MSN/Live, Ask Jeeves or the recently released Wolfram Alpha.

Tweetdeck v0.25b Update – Facebook Functionality!

April 9, 2009

tweetdeck-beta-logoNicely timed to coincide with an announcement from Seesmic’s founder Loic Le Meur that they’ll be launching a desktop Twitter app, Tweetdeck have updated their offering. The new v0.25b version of Tweetdeck was made available at 5pm GMT on Thursday with a whole host of new features which look to, at least until Seesmic rolls out, confirm the platform as the premier Twitter desktop app.

The Facebook Redesign…Redesigned

March 30, 2009

facebook-logoThree weeks ago to the day we brought you a guide to the new Facebook design which sure enough came to millions of screens on the 11th March, but not to a particularly good reception. People complained that it was too complicated, too simple, too much like twitter, too much like the old Facebook – essentially people didn’t like it.

In fact just the top three anti-new Facebook groups have a total of 2,527,741 (and counting) combined which (for those of you not great at maths) is a lot of people. So Facebook have decided to act, and they have done so by redesigning the new design, and this is your guide to the few little tweaks that have been made.

Your Guide to The New Facebook Redesign

March 8, 2009

facebook-logoYes, it’s that time of year again: where the people at Facebook redesign the site and people get angry because they don’t like it. Ok, that may not happen, but if past experiences are anything to go by we know that users of the number one social networking site don’t like change; but change is what they are going to get whether they like it or not.

Coming out on March 11th the new design will feature real time newsfeed updates (copying Twitter’s success, one could think) and a return to the left hand navigation (something that has been demanded for by countless groups since July last year). So let’s have a look at how it will look, and what will be different.

Twitter Clients & Applications

October 21, 2008

twitter-logoI thought I’d give a little update as to how I’ve been using Twitter and what I currently think to it given my initial Twitter scepticism for the service when I first started blogging over 18 months ago – how times have changed, how those archives can come back to haunt you! ;)

If you’ve been following Zath on Twitter for the past few weeks you’ll already know that I tend to go through days of several Twitter updates to some where I may only reply to other people’s Twitter – essentially using it as a chat or IM service. Either way, I’m finding that the Twitter community is a great one to be a part of and have found people answering questions that I’ve Twittered even though we may not have chatted before.

Follow Zath on Twitter!

September 9, 2008

twitter-logoDo you Twitter? I have to admit that I was very sceptical about this Twittering malarkey – I thought it was just a pointless thing to be doing as I wrote about in one of my early posts where I questioned the point of Twitter? However, that said, I have to admit that I think I was wrong about it and am now perhaps a little late to the Twitter party, but better late than never!

Twitter is essentially a way of letting people know what you’re currently up to or thinking – pretty much like people update their Facebook status, a mini-blog so to speak! In fact I have my Facebook status set up to update to whatever I post as a Twitter update by installing the Twitter application onto my Facebook account.
