Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software Review
March 11, 2010
We’ve all been there and done it… Not many people can say they’ve never accidentally deleted an e-mail or an important file, and those who have may not have got it back! With Stellar’s Windows Data Recovery Software, you can make sure that those all important files are recovered if you ever lose them or format a drive and forget to backup a file.
Installation was effortless, and I was up and running in no time with no hassle. Unlike most complex applications that are designed for a similar function, Stellar’s recovery software is extremely well designed, providing easy access to key functions and allowing even the most inexperienced user to navigate around. You’re given five tabs to choose from at the top of the window. When a tab is selected, you’re given different functions to choose from and an explanation on how each of these functions work and how to use it. This is especially useful for beginners, and shows how much thought went in to the design process of the application.

I love Mac OS X, but for some reason it still doesn’t have the ability to write to NTFS formatted drives, only read them. This is a major drawback, especially when working with Windows systems that use NTFS formatted partitions. For me, being able to write to NTFS drives is essential; all my external hard drives and pen drives are formatted for Windows, so I need to be able to access them whenever I want from any OS I want.
Created by Tuxera, the same development company that also developed NTFS-3G, an open source solution for Mac OS X NTFS writing, Tuxera NTFS for Mac adds an abundance of options and data protection to your partitions as well as delivering top speeds when writing data. Like NTFS-3G, Tuxera NTFS places itself in System Preferences.

If I hadn’t just purchased a 2TB USB 2.0 external hard drive a few months ago, I’d be ecstatic about the sheer amount of USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) announcements being made at CES this year! Many of the laptops on show come with USB 3.0 built in, and for those people who don’t have the new USB standard available to them yet, the new external hard drives being released also come with the option of paying a little more to be shipped with a USB 3.0 adapter.
EASEUS Partition Master Review (Free Hard Disk Partition Software)
December 2, 2009
I’ve never enjoyed the prospect of editing the partitions on my PC; my data’s too precious and I’m a computing malfunction magnet! So I was naturally cautious when I downloaded EASEUS Partition Master to review, which is available as a free download from EASEUS’ site. I’m always slightly wary about editing/creating/deleting partitions, but Partition Master gave a good impression from the offset, in fact it works better than a lot of paid solutions I’ve come across.
Partition Master does everything you’d expect from such a piece of software – you can manage partitions on internal and external drives (both USB and Firewire) and even copy entire partitions and disks, which makes a very nice feature list for a free piece of software. The user interface is extremely simple to navigate for both beginners and professionals whilst still offering more than enough features to keep even the most demanding consumer happy (although no one can complain at the price).
