‘Call of Duty: World at War’ Review (PC)

February 17, 2009

call-of-duty-world-at-war-pcMany people were a little taken aback when it was announced that Call of Duty 5 would return back to a World War 2 setting in Call of Duty: World at War, however I’m someone who hadn’t played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (and still haven’t got to playing it yet) so for me personally this follows the spirit of the previous Call of Duty games I’ve played.

The new setting of the Pacific war in which you play an American soldier compliments the more usual European war location (in this case you’re fighting as a Russian trying to take back Russia) and I feel adds a completely new take on things in terms of both tactics and the feel of the graphics.

Call of Duty: World at War (PS3)

December 13, 2008

call-of-duty-world-at-war-ps3-coverAfter the impressive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Treyarch had a lot to live up to with Call of Duty: World at War.

Treyarch are the company who made Call of Duty 3 and did it very well so there was no doubt that World at War was going to be good, but just how good?

It turns out very good indeed!

Some people did seem a little disappointed in the fact that this was yet another WW2 Call of Duty and that it was a step backwards, but this is more in depth than the other ones, albeit a hell of a lot shorter, which did annoy me, and was one of the faults with Modern Warfare. But don’t let that put you off, because it really is a great game.

Tetris Party (WiiWare)

November 28, 2008

tetris-party-logoI remember the good old days back when Tetris could only be played on the relic that is the GameBoy and how amazing and addictive it was!

Well now with Tetris Party it’s been revamped and has more options, I find it more addictive as it had me up until the early hours of the morning.

There are 5 different gaming types within Tetris Party which include:

  • Marathon Mode (Basic Tetris game)
  • Computer Battle (1 on 1 with the Wii)
  • Field Climber (Get a little man out of the board using the “Tetriminos”)
  • Shadow (Fill the shadow with the “Tetriminos”)
  • Stage Racer (Race through different courses using different “Tetriminos”)
  • And ONLINE!

You can play multiplayer as well, so if you have a sibling, other half or pet that you fancy showing up, then crack on!

Professor Layton and the Curious Village Review (DS)

November 24, 2008

professor-layton-and-the-curious-village-ds-coverI didn’t read about Professor Layton and the Curious Village until about 2 weeks before the release date, but I’m really glad I did read about it.

The pictures seemed to make the game look a bit childish and more like a stocking filler when I first glanced at it. Even though I love animation, Disney films and Studio Ghibli films, it didn’t really appeal to me. But after reading about the game, I really wanted to play the game and suddenly the images looked brilliant.

The main storyline sees Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke being called to the village of St Mystere to search for the secret treasure of the late Baron Reinhold that is ‘The Golden Apple’. The tale goes that whoever finds ‘The Golden Apple’ will have earned the right to all of Baron Reinhold’s fortune. The game opens with a nice little clip which explains in more depth the reason why you’re going to be racking your brains to solve over 100 puzzles.

Harry Potter – Half Blood Prince Trailer 3

November 22, 2008

harry-potter-half-blood-prince-posterI’ve just seen another Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Trailer and it looks absolutely awesome!! By far the best Harry Potter trailer I’ve ever seen and I really am fuming with Warner Bros. for delaying the release of this amazing film.

I thought it was a trailer I’d already seen, but then realised it was new and I was jumping with joy!!

November 9, 2008

transformers-2-posterTransformers: Revenge of the Fallen has now completed filming! But don’t get too excited yet because the release date isn’t until June 26 2009, which isn’t really that far off. But that’s probably the US release date unless they do a worldwide release which I’m sure everyone would appreciate!

‘Quantum of Solace’ Review

November 6, 2008

quantum-of-solace-posterQuantum of Solace Review (12A)

Cast: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric, Gemma Arterton
Director: Marc Foster
Running Time: 107 minutes

After ‘Casino Royale’ I really thought that it was a sign that Bond really was back and could only get better. But the film was just like the musical theme for Quantum of Solace. Good in parts, but parts were like someone was scraping their nails down a blackboard.

New Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Trailer

October 29, 2008

harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince-posterFor all you crazy Harry Potter fans out there who are still fuming from Warner Bros. sadistically putting back of the Half Blood Prince release date and anyone else too – here’s the new teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!

I remember seeing the first Half Blood Prince trailer and getting all giddy like a little kid, and then the teaser that was released with The Dark Knight was just a voice over of Dumbledore which sent chills down my spine (and yes I’m a Harry Potter maniac).
