Tomb Raider: Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light Screenshots
March 8, 2010
Last week we mentioned that Crystal Dynamics were set to release a brand new downloadable Tomb Raider game titled Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light. At the time, there weren’t any screenshots to show you, but some have just surfaced and upon my first look, it made me wince.
It looks more like a platform puzzle game compared to what we’re used to seeing Lara Croft doing. The camera is very Alien Breed-esque which, for a Lara Croft game, doesn’t bode well in my opinion.

March 6, 2010
The LG InTouch Max (GW620) is LG’s first attempt at an Android smartphone. Serving the budget end of the market, the GW620 is available from free on a £20 a month contract with T-Mobile in the UK. This is the same headset that Zath got to have a hands-on test with a few months ago when we attended the LG Mobile Event (November 2009), we liked the look of it and wrote up our own LG GW620 (Android) preview about the handset, so be sure to take a look at that first – it would appear our hope for a better name has in fact happened with LG playing up the social networking possibilities of this handset by calling it the LG InTouch Max!
Hardware
The LG InTouch Max (GW620) is the first Android device I’ve used with a hardware keyboard, which naturally makes the device thicker than others available on the market, although it doesn’t feel unnatural when holding it without the keyboard slid out. On the front of the device there are 2 soft touch buttons for home and back, and a physical button in the centre, allowing you to access settings of each app open.

March 4, 2010
A brand new Tomb Raider is on its way which is to be called ‘Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light’.
Crystal Dynamics who have been responsible for the last three Tomb Raider outings which include the only next gen Tomb Raider, ‘Tomb Raider Underworld’ are set to make the next instalment in the popular franchise starring Lara Croft.
However this time around, Lara Croft is going to be turning up as a digital download-only game title sometime this year. There’s no word on which console(s) this will appear on, but my bet is it will appear on both PS3 and Xbox 360 with the possibility of a PC release and maybe even as a WiiWare game.

February 26, 2010
Virgin Media has been around for a while now and I am sure that you have all seen their adverts boasting about on fibre-optic broadband services. The problem I had with this was that it left me begging the question “how good is it compared to say, BT or Sky Broadband’s phone line based ADSL services? (Let’s not even get into mobile broadband)”.
Well now you are in luck as I switched to Virgin Media’s fibre-optic broadband and have given it a full testing in my own “special way”. On the surface things stack up pretty well. My old service offered “up to 8MB speeds”.
Using a download speed test, what this actually equated to was me receiving around 1 MB/s – Virgin offers 10MB, as standard! The difference is though what this actually equates to speeds on average of around 9 MB/s. That put into perspective means that I can now download a typical MP3 in about 5 seconds or a typical film (800 MB) in 12 mins. This is a huge boost in performance and put an even huger (I know that is not an actual word but it is very fitting) smile on my face.

February 3, 2010
Every few years or so we are all presented with a new version of Microsoft’s hugely popular office suite of applications. The last time this happened was in 2007 and please correct me if I’m wrong, not all that many people/companies took kindly to it with the majority choosing to stick with the perfectly capable 2003 version.
Microsoft Office 2010 has now hit the Release Candidate (RC) stage after a period of beta testing which started in November and now the beta testers will be getting to play around with this Office 2010 RC download. As of last month, there were a total 2 million downloads of the beta release. This is no doubt a major milestone on the way to releasing the final version which will be offered in both 32 and 64 bit editions for the first time ever.

December 24, 2009
You may have seen my earlier article on CoverScout, the app which can pluck all of your album artwork from the Internet and attach it to your tracks in iTunes. I mentioned SongGenie in there as an app which furthers the capabilities of CoverScout by adding in all of your track information. You do need both to make all of it happen.
The app is a simple one, it works very similarly to CoverScout by collaborating with your iTunes library and scouring the internet for all of the relevant song information such as Artist, Album, Track Numbers etc. and generally cleaning up your iTunes library. For me there is not a lot worse than seeing a list of tracks which are called ‘track 1’ etc. and this is the answer.

December 23, 2009
You may have seen my review quite a while ago now on TuneUp, the Windows program designed to find and sort all of your iTunes artwork appropriately. Well, CoverScout does just that, but for Mac OS X.
The app works alongside iTunes, not very discreetly I might add, but it doesn’t ruin the whole look and feel of OS X and iTunes. With just a few clicks you can have CoverScout scour your entire library for missing artwork and inserting high resolution artwork as it goes. Not only that, the integrated editor allows you to alter the artwork in terms of cropping them, scaling them to fit the consistency of your collection.

December 5, 2009
According to a journalist for the Telegraph, Sky Songs has the potential to rival iTunes as an online music provider. The concept is not a new thing; downloading and streaming music is widely available online including the increasingly popular Spotify. But coming from a trusted source such as Sky, who provide television, telephone and internet for many households already, gives this service a head start over other options.
The principle is simple. You visit the Sky Songs website, sign up and you have access to 4 million songs. You can choose whether or not to download albums, singles or even mix and match songs creating a ‘music pack’. Most albums or music packs are available for £6.49, rivalling the prices of the likes of Amazon MP3 Download Store and iTunes for top titles.

December 4, 2009
For years now I have been a user of Mozilla’s Firefox browser, but after downloading the Opera mobile browser for my phone, and being somewhat pleased by the browsing experience, I decided to give the full desktop version of the Opera 10 browser a go.
The first thing that I was impressed with was the setup time. Within just a couple of minutes I had downloaded and installed the program and was browsing. A much nicer and easier install than that of say, Safari. Plus, there are no annoying requests to install additional software that you have no intention of installing.
Upon opening the browser, I was initially impressed by the interface. In my opinion, the browser boasts looks almost as fine as those of Safari. However, by gaining the looks that you don’t get with the likes of Internet Explorer and Firefox, you don’t lose any of the simplicity and usability.

December 3, 2009
I recently attended an LG Mobile event in London in which LG showcased a number of their current and upcoming mobile phones, the main focus of my interest that evening was certainly the chance to get my hands on LG’s first Android-based mobile phone, the LG GW620.
First of all, the main mobile phone I currently use is an iPhone 3GS, but I’ve been interested in Google’s Android platform for mobile phones ever since it launched with the T-Mobile G1 late last year, but now we’re starting to see some real potential with it as Google continue to development it further as a platform that could truly rival Apple’s iPhone platform.
