Xbox 360 Now Less Than £100
December 17, 2008
With the growing economic gloom and redundancies galore we are well overdue some good news and our good friends at Zavvi have helped us into a happier Christmas by dropping the price of the Xbox 360 to below the £100 mark. Admittedly it is just by one penny (the price tag now reads £99.99) but it is still a £30 drop on the previous £129 price, which itself was a substantial drop on the original release price.
There are many things that you could read from this, and many conclusions to be drawn, so lets start as high up the hierarchy as we can, with Microsoft. This price drop is similar to those that you often see at this time of year as manufacturers make a desperate attempt to ship as many failing products as they can; but the cheap Xbox 360 is most definitely not failing and over the Christmas period has probably out sold its nearest rival the PS3.

December 17, 2008
That’s right folks, the GadgetShop currently have a great promotion on where they have reduced all the prices of their hi-tech gadgets by the amount equal to VAT on them, that’s a 15% reduction in prices ahead of Christmas to you and me!
I’ve always remembered visiting the original GadgetShop stores when they first appeared here in the UK, it was a great experience to not only see these gadgets, but also to see them working and sometimes even have a play with them yourself. Definitely one of the highlights of my visits to the Trafford Centre!

November 18, 2008
The free Zone Alarm firewall software has been available for many years now and is regarded by many as the best firewall software you can use on your computer and is better than the standard Windows Firewall in terms of security.
The same company that produces the free Zone Alarm software also produces a Zone Alarm Pro Internet Security Suite version which also includes anti-spyware applications to provide further protection to your computer which normally costs $39.95 per year, so you can get a full retail version instead of having to look to using a free adware remover.

August 11, 2008
Rockstar has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 4 will be released on the PC!
The release date for North America is 18th November, while us Europeans will have to wait an extra 3 days for it to arrive on the 3rd December 2008. I don’t mind, I’ve waited since April to hear this, so a few more days is nothing!
You might remember me mentioning in my post about digital gaming distribution that I actually managed to buy GTA 4 on the Xbox 360 a few days after release - it was quite task to do that even!
However, since buying it, I’ve tried playing it a few times on the Xbox 360, but have all but given up on it, don’t get me wrong, it’s a great looking game and I really *want* to play it, but the control system using a (cheap) wireless Xbox 360 controller just feels far too unnatural for me when I’ve played the last three GTA games with a mouse and keyboard on the PC.

August 9, 2008
The Sansa Fuze is the latest MP3 player from the memory giants – SanDisk. The first thing that you notice about this device is the glossy finish to the front of the MP3 player and the back of the Sansa Fuze has a grippy, rubberised back which makes it feel secure in your hand and provides a nice design contrast to the front.
The Fuze features an iPod-like wheel interface, however the wheel is rubber and actually spins – I’ve found this to be a great method of controlling the Sansa Fuze, it allows for precise control and the sense of real feedback in operation. It feels remarkably good in use – in fact, I prefer this to the touch control on my iPod Classic as I’m always finding myself moving one option too far in the menus on the iPod.
It has a 2GB capacity which isn’t bad for a device that is priced around the £50 price mark – however the real defining good point of this device is that you can then expand this capacity by using a cheap Micro SD memory card in the slot on the side of the device. A nifty little feature from a company who are one of the most well known memory card manufacturers!

August 6, 2008
Hi folks! Just a quick message to let you know that Naughty Dog have created an update for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is now available with the new trophies update.
It’s another excuse to start playing this amazing game again, and I’ve bagged myself 5 bronze trophies already.

July 26, 2008
I find one of the greatest things about using the Internet is the ability to do some discount shopping online to find yourself a well-researched cheap bargain!
I really embraced online shopping to such as degree that when I do go out into the high street, I find that I no longer make want to make any impulse buys that I would then often regret making afterwards. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or that I get much more satisfaction from actually researching which actual products are best in a given category and finding that product at the cheapest possible price on the Internet.
I think it’s most likely the more patient, frugal-side of me winning out over the side of me that wants immediate shopping gratification! I sometimes wonder how many other people feel the same way as myself about discount shopping online these days, if it’s an increasing number then surely the physical high street stores will have to develop accordingly where they offer no real benefits over that of a website.

July 25, 2008
How cheap are memory cards going to get?
Around 18 months ago I bought a 2GB Micro SD card for my Orange E650 mobile phone which cost me just over £20 at the time, I’ve now come to buy a memory card for my new HTC Tytn II mobile phone and found that I could get an 8GB Micro SD card for just £17.99.
This kind of storage on a mobile phone is huge! Think of all the photos and videos you could take/record, you could pretty much capture and document your life! Or you could take a lot of entertainment with you wherever you might go, think of all the MP3s or movies/tv shows in Divx format you could fit on a device with 8GB – that’s as much as many MP3 players including some iPods!

July 17, 2008
I’ve just seen that there’s currently a summer sale going on over at Gadgetshop, who was one of pioneers of gadgets shop around 10 years ago - I remember buying lots of “Hi-Tech Gadgets” back around 2000 - I particularly remember getting a Plasma Ball for my desk and missing out on one of the original large size ITV Digital monkehs!

April 10, 2008
What do you think to a cheap Xbox 360 bargain? I say bargain because you can now pick up a cheap Xbox 360 for less than the cost of a Nintendo Wii.
Admittedly this is for the cheapest Xbox 360 Arcade model of the console which doesn’t come with a hard disk drive, but does use the wireless Xbox 360 controllers. So this means that Microsoft have now priced an Xbox 360 model as the cheapest console out there.
