LG InTouch Max (GW620) Review

March 6, 2010

lg-gw620-qwerty-keyboard-slide-out-view-smallThe LG InTouch Max (GW620) is LG’s first attempt at an Android smartphone. Serving the budget end of the market, the GW620 is available from free on a £20 a month contract with T-Mobile in the UK. This is the same headset that Zath got to have a hands-on test with a few months ago when we attended the LG Mobile Event (November 2009), we liked the look of it and wrote up our own LG GW620 (Android) preview about the handset, so be sure to take a look at that first – it would appear our hope for a better name has in fact happened with LG playing up the social networking possibilities of this handset by calling it the LG InTouch Max!

Hardware

The LG InTouch Max (GW620) is the first Android device I’ve used with a hardware keyboard, which naturally makes the device thicker than others available on the market, although it doesn’t feel unnatural when holding it without the keyboard slid out. On the front of the device there are 2 soft touch buttons for home and back, and a physical button in the centre, allowing you to access settings of each app open.

Apple ‘Magic Mouse’ Re-Invents The Mouse?

October 25, 2009

apple-magic-mouse-side-viewMice have come a long way since they were originally conceived as a box with wheels, and now Apple aims to extend the trend of improvement and push the mouse forward into the future by incorporating its multi-touch technology to make a mouse that’s more than just buttons.

And all things considered it makes a change Apple making a nice mouse, because for the last decade anyone wanting to use a Mac (or being forced to) has had to put up with the stupid one button excuse for a mouse that Apple have produced which sacrifices ergonomics for looks in a horrible ‘brand image’ pay-off…

But hopefully not only will the ‘Magic Mouse’ (previously known as the ‘Mighty Mouse’ but forced to change for legal reasons) mean a new era for Apple mice, but also for mice in general as the Magic Mouse incorporates technology not really seen on any other mice before – which we could soon see jumping across into everyday use.

Papershow Review (Electronic Meeting Minutes)

September 5, 2008

papershow-meeting-gadgetPapershow is a new presentation device that I’ve had the opportunity to preview and test out. Papershow is basically a package that comprises a bluetooth pen device and a USB memory stick/bluetooth dongle that pair together and work with a pad of ‘digital paper’ (paper with a grid on to enable the motion tracking) that’s included in the pack.

The idea is that Papershow substitutes for a whiteboard, flip chart or traditional minute taking, making it easy to convey ideas during the meeting, save the results and share them after the event. This functionality will be familiar to those who have electronic smartboards, but this new technology is much cheaper and can be used wherever you can take a laptop or have a computer/projector system provided at your meeting/conference venue.
