Avatar 3D: Extended Cut To Be Released?

March 14, 2010

avatar-poster-2There’s talk of re-releasing Avatar but with an extended cut version of the highest grossing film to ever hit the screen this summer.

The extra footage is said to be around 10-12 minutes, which isn’t a lot, but any excuse to see Avatar in 3D again is good enough for me. Some of the extra scenes that could be added are Jake Sully’s avatar proving himself to the Na’vi and Tsu’tey getting drunk at a native festival.

To be honest, I don’t think it would be detrimental to the film for leaving these scenes out as I was amazed with Avatar both times that I saw it in all it’s 3D glory.

New Sony Bravia HD & 3D TV Range Announced (CES 2010)

January 7, 2010

As we predicted television manufacturers have already started building up the 3DTV market, as well as broadcasters such as Sky launching 3D TV services in 2010 and it is only likely to continue throughout this year and decade. Sony are no different. With their new range of Bravia TV’s announced at CES 2010 which continue their long tradition of combining style and elegance with functionality and quality.

The first enhancement they have made is with the Sony Monolithic Design Concept that is featured across the new BRAVIA range of products. It is minimalistic as well as practical. You can recline the TV to alter the viewing angle by up to 6 degrees. The screen surface is flush and it looks spectacular in my opinion as always with Sony products. What they like to call ‘monolithic design’ has been deployed throughout their new range of Bravia TV’s, Blu-Ray players and home cinema systems. Which going by the look of these new TV’s is not a bad thing at all. They’re curvaceous, spacious and absolutely stunning.

Avatar 3D Review

January 1, 2010

Avatar 3D (12A)

Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez
Director: James Cameron
Running Time: 161 minutes

Avatar was said to be revolutionary, state of the art, will change the way we watch cinema and I couldn’t agree more. This film is immense.

Usually when films develop as much hype as this has picked up, we’re all usually let down big time and the best bits are shown in the trailers. But this wasn’t to be the case with Avatar and its trailer. The backbone of the story sees humans on a planet (which is actually a moon) called Pandora, and they’re there to mine for a certain mineral which is ridiculously expensive and it just so happens that the biggest deposit of the mineral is right underneath the natives’ (who are called the Na’vi) home.

Eurogamer Expo 2009 (Leeds) – Games Review: Part 1

November 8, 2009

eurogamer-expo-2009-logoSo as you know, we here on Zath have recently attended the Eurogamer Expo’s in Leeds and London and we’ve played a few games that were there on show and I thought I’d share with you a few of the games that we managed to get our hands on this year.

Uncharted 2 (PS3)

uncharted-2-among-thieves-ps3-cover-150First up is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. After playing the first Uncharted I was expecting this to be just as good if not better and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I had played on the Uncharted 2 multiplayer BETA version before the expo, but the demos on show were the single player versions and it was brilliant.

‘Avatar’ Trailer #2

November 6, 2009

avatar-posterIt wasn’t until the first images and the first teaser trailer of Avatar that I realised the potential of this film. James Cameron has spent 14 years of his life working on this one film. 10 years developed a brand new style of camera designed for a new evolution in 3D films and the other 4 years making the film.

Avatar is to be the next step in cinema history which all future blockbusters will use as a landmark. This sounds like a mighty confident statement, but in previous years, any film that boasts that much about their film ends up being a complete waste of time.

Eurogamer Expo 2009 (London) – Games Review: Part 1

November 4, 2009

eurogamer-expo-2009-logoAs I’m sure you are aware that some of us at Zath have recently visited the Euogamer Expo’s at both Leeds and London, and this is the first of a few posts having a look at some of the games I got to have a go on at the latter and picking out some of the best ones just in time for Christmas (now less than two months away for those of you not counting!).

So on with the games, and today I’ll be starting with two fairly dissimilar ones in the form of ‘Avatar’ and ‘Professor Layton & Pandora’s Box’ which were played on the PS3 and Nintendo DS respectively!

New Xbox 360 User Experience

November 23, 2008

360-user-experience-avatar-creationPlenty has been made of the Xbox 360 new user experience (well, by Microsoft anyway) this past month. “Only one week to go!” we were told. “It’s like we’re giving everyone a new console” they said, so let me say this from the get-go – it’s a huge pile of crap!

You realize you’re in trouble just about the time when you’re picking the style of your Avatar’s jeans.

Because I’m not twelve, I couldn’t give a flying-f*ck what hair style or T-shirt my “online character” has. Indeed, I don’t even want an online character. Unfortunately, while you don’t have to customize it, you don’t get a choice in this matter. It’s an annoying Wii-wannabe of an idea and it’s pointless and annoying.
