Toy Story 2 3D Review

February 13, 2010

This isn’t really a complete review as I’d normally write here on Zath as I’m sure everyone has already seen Toy Story 2. But as with my ‘review’ on Toy Story 3D, this is just a short post about seeing Toy Story 2 in 3D.

But just in case you haven’t seen it, Woody is kidnapped by a toy collector who wants to sell him and the rest of ‘Woody’s Roundup’ to a Japanese museum. It’s then up to Buzz & co. to find Woody and bring him home. We meet new characters including Barbie’s Mrs Potato Head and Buzz’s arch enemy, Emperor Zurg.

‘Up’ Review (Pixar)

October 21, 2009

up-poster-disney-pixarUp (PG)

Cast: Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, Jordan Nagai, Bob Peterson,
Director: Pete Doctor, Bob Peterson (co-director)
Running time: 96 minutes

Pixar are notorious for creating magnificent pieces of visual work with suitably moving storylines to accompany the animation and soundtrack, thereby undoubtedly producing spellbinding works of art. I am hoping that my previous needlessly complex sentence construction will go somewhat towards explaining how the facets of this film mean to do well when put together, but ultimately don’t manage to cut the mustard. Don’t get me wrong, it feels like it should do well. But, for some reason, I just can’t get the Pixar magic out of this production.

‘Toy Story 3D’ Review

October 12, 2009

toy-story-3d-logoOK, well this isn’t really a review of Toy Story as I don’t see the point, but I just thought I’d do a small post on reviewing the 3D side of the film. Now everyone knows how amazing the film is and it was a benchmark for all animated films. It was the first ever fully CGI full length feature and was released 14 years ago in 1995. Toy Story fuelled my hunger for wanting to know more about animated films and led me to getting my degree in Computer Animation.

I still remember going to see it at the cinema and was absolutely blown away from what I saw. Now with Toy Story 3 less than a year away (controls the excitement), Pixar have re-released this absolute classic again in 3D.

Toy Story 3 Trailer

October 10, 2009

toy-story-3-logoI’ve got a problem. Well, it’s more of an obsession. Any time anyone mentions the words Toy Story, all the little Serenas inside me jump around in glee. They go mental, actually. After watching the first one at the tender age of 12 (in the tender year of 1995), I fell in love with it immediately. It resonated so much with my own experiences of growing up and how important your true friends are that when the sequel was announced four years later, all the little Serenas threw a party in celebration. News of the third to complete the trilogy definitely made all the little mes go bonkers and head to Vegas.

But, the flimsy Toy Story 3 teaser trailer that Disney/Pixar released a few months ago was so poor that it made me a little sad. I watched it and felt like throwing a tantrum because of the fact that after NINE YEARS of waiting for news of the third film they released a trailer that revealed nothing but the fact that there was a third film. What a waste of time.

Studio Ghibli DS Game Announced

October 6, 2009

ninokuni-the-another-world-nintendo-ds-screenshotI’m a massive fan of Studio Ghibli films and still find them to be some of the best animated films around. In case you’re unaware, Studio Ghibli are the masters of animation who brought us films such as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and the upcoming Ponyo.

Studio Ghibli have teamed up with Level 5 who are the people responsible for Professor Layton games, and are going to be doing an RPG game that is being specifically made for a new high capacity Nintendo DS cart that can store up to 4GB of date which is twice as much as the PSP’s UMD’s, which has a limit of 1.8GB.

‘Coraline’ Review

June 3, 2009

coraline-posterCoraline (PG)

Cast: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, John Hodgeman, Robert Bailey Jr, Ian McShane
Director: Harry Selick
Running time: 100 minutes

At some point when we were young, we always wished we were somewhere else, in a place far away and somewhere much more exhilarating. We wished for different parents, siblings, friends and almost certainly different lives to the ones we had. But, none of us ever thought as far as what would happen if that wishful thinking were to become a reality. In Coraline’s case, she gets a lot more than she bargains for when she goes in search of adventures to places she knows nothing of. What exploits lurk behind that mysteriously small door?

Top 5 Morph Animations

May 12, 2009

my-own-morphYou may remember that about six months, we featured the Make Your Own Morph kit which we thought would make the ideal gift for any budding animator or just anyone who remembers the stop-motion early classics that were featured on Tony Hart’s TV art show – I remember watching those Morph animations after school as a kid myself! Great times!

What made this ‘My Own Morph’ kit event better was the fact that it was a usable plasticine model with which you can create your own stop-motion animations and upload them to the official Wallace and Gromit website for everyone else to watch.

Star Wars Story – Told By A Girl Who Hasn’t Watched It!

January 21, 2009

star-wars-logoI’m one of those people who never really watched Star Wars properly when I was a kid, I remember watching bits of those films, but I never truly appreciated them. That was until I watched them through properly once I was around 13 or 14, so I can understand how people kind of tie bits of movies together and form their own storyline – although I never thought about Star Wars to that extent myself!

Once I did watch Star Wars, then obviously the story is pretty self-evident and not exactly open to much interpretation, however watching the animation below which details a certain girl’s thoughts on what happens in the Star Wars movies – it certainly does provide a level of amusement to anyone who is familiar with the Star Wars story!

World of Warcraft – Bush Shoe Attack

January 12, 2009

One of the great things about World of Warcraft is the fact that Blizzard are always developing this immensely popular game even further to make it a better gaming experience, however I’m not entirely sure about this one!

Clearly the news reporter in question has chosen to use Blizzard’s newly introduced ranged attack called the “shoe attack” ;)

Cool T-Shirt Designs (Bleee)

September 21, 2008

stepping-out-t-shirtT-shirts are a great way to get some custom designed clothing for yourself to show off your individuality, that’s one reason why I feel much more at comfortable wearing jeans and a T-shirt than a suit or shirt and tie.
