Just last week we heard news of the new StarCraft II keyboard and mouse mats from SteelSeries. But back at E3 in Los Angeles, the company have announced the Spectrum 5xb and 4xb Xbox 360 headsets.
SteelSeries gaming peripherals have proven very popular over the years with PC gamers with products such as the SteelSeries Siberia V2 gaming headset and the new Spectrum range for Xbox 360 games looks to extend the companies gaming pedigree even further.
Spectrum 5xb
The first of the SteelSeries headsets is the Spectrum 5xb. The premium offering of the two is a wired headset designed specifically for Xbox 360 and features XL-sized cloth cushions rigorously tested to be as comfortable as possible for lengthy periods of gaming. Plus, apart from aesthetics and comfort, sound quality and precision is imperative for serious gamers and the custom-built soundscape via 40mm SunDancer (SCS) units allow gamers to pinpoint noises in the game.
For console gamers this offering is probably one of the best on the market offering great sound quality as well as great comfort and build quality. Other features of the headset is obviously an adjustable headband as you would expect and a retractable microphone which can be stored in the left earcup when not in use.
Spectrum 4xb
The Spectrum 4xb is very similar in terms of features, with the entry-level offering remaining lightweight and XL-sized and keeping the optimised soundscape audio with retractable microphone. Made from for the most part the same comfortable materials and following a circumaural design, they remain stylish with great build quality whilst coming in at a lower price.
Summary
So its not as if gaming headsets are anything new, but when a new pair of them get released by what is one of the market leaders with such products, it is always worth considering. If you’re the sort of Xbox 360 gamer who needs pinpoint audio quality and great comfort for extensive durations of play, then there is no doubt that, if you wish to pay a premium, the SteelSeries Spectrum 5xb is for you. If not, then check out the SteelSeries Spectrum 4xb instead.
